Residents also said an airstrike late Friday killed six members of a family and two overnight guests. Neighbors said the head of the household, Hamad Hdaib Mohammedi, was well known for his opposition to the insurgents. Television footage showed the dust-covered body of a small girl being pulled from the rubble of Mohammedi's home.
So, how's that "big hammer" approach working, eh? We just need to drop more bombs, right?
But hey...
Fifteen minutes after the strike, U.S. aircraft dropped leaflets calling on residents to eject foreign fighters and join the political process. The fliers offered $65 million in development projects but warned that the money would go to other cities if the population did not act soon.
...At least Hamad Hdaib Mohammedi can apply for one of those contracts!

sh*t happens dude... sometimes it's unfortunate sh*t. i hope you're also aware that the insurgents and terrorist operatives are also responsible for a lot of bystanders getting smoked.
side note. did you notice this article (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6095119/)? mostly in regards to the "readiness factor" that the iraqi national guard is currently in? i'm pretty sure you and i were discussing their increased role a few months ago.

At any rate, in the context of this thread, the lives lost were in a family that was on our side in FALLUJAH...a very rare thing, indeed.
This is why I've railed against the "big hammer" approach. You almost NEVER get the bad guys, and occasionally you dump a shytload of ordnance on the GOOD guys. IOW, it's a losing proposition.
Yet, I fully expect to see certain posters here continue to jabber about "taking the gloves off", as if applying MORE force is the answer, rather than more intel.

1. He probably understands that his kids are dead. I think that's probably the limits of his cognitive skills right now. At any rate, we didn't exactly cover ourselves in glory, or success.

2. problem with your theory is, i DOUBT we're going anywhere. can you say "permanent base of operations to intimidate regional neighbors of iraq"? (or to appease israel)
it's hard to say what the free iraqi's are going to do. even harder to predict that their religion or religious leaders will hold all the cards when the smoke clears. do you really think that old school religious leaders opinions mean much to the younger generations? especially since they've had a glimpse of what their lives COULD be like without saddam or grizzled old mullahs?
