From a post on another site:

If my numbers aren't wrong, moving up from the #25 spot. We allowed 210 yards in the game and added to the 1067 we'd allowed in the three weeks prior, that's now a total of 1277 yards for a per game average of 319.25 which is good enough to replace Baltimore at the #14 spot they previously held before they allowed 398 yards to our offense dropping them down a few slots.
We also now are allowing an average of 134.25 yards rushing a game which is good enough to replace Miami at the #26 spot and 192.5 yards passing a game good enough for a # 11 ranking in pass defense.

WRONG. I wore my TrenTD Green jersey for the first time tonight. As a result Green posted a QB rating of 99.2.

I've worn my trent jersey every freaking game for the past 3 years.

It ain't the jersey.

I've said it all year - every week into the season is a week removed from Knobinson.

I don't know how much better they can get, but I think it's safe to say that last year's abomination is a thing of the past.

I just hope starting in an 0-3 hole doesn't come back to bite us later.

I've been saying for a long time that I don't think the defense will play up to its full potentiel until about midseason. You can definitely see improvement each week. :thumb: Now, they really need to improve the rush defense. They have done a good job the past two weeks against the run, though.

Right on, that 3 in the lost column hurts like hell with our schedule.

The rush D will get better yet, it's the pass D that scares me most. Teams are really getting to McCleon this year. Many recievers so far this year are too wide open in our secondary. Last night had we played against a better QB, we would have lost. Boller is awlful and the there recievers are weak .

Our ST's are not containing their position on coverage.

The flags were less last night, but the ones we got hurt like hell. This will continue to hurt us unless we get our crap together.

Overall, impressed with the gutty performance. But lets keep in mind we are not a 14th rank D right now.....after 4 weeks and 2 good showings...OK, but overall, we are not.

With games coming up against quality talent, that ranking will not hold. IMHO, we could be around # 20 by years end, which is a good improvement from last year.

This is what the best I can get out of as of right now. It's NOT 100% accurate, but very close. I am not able to get all of it since some stats don't show Tackle for losses, how many penalties on D, etc.

Most of us have always said that if we could just get a middle of the pack defense we would be fine. Looks like they are heading in that direction for a change. Gun gets the glory...

Congrats on the win. I didn't see much of the game, but the defense looked pretty decent. I hope it keeps up as I'd much rather see the Chiefs win the AFCW than the Raiders or Broncos, or even the relatively harmless Chargers.

That said, the yards per game is a relatively stupid stat in general. I know that it is the "NFL Standard" for assessing total defense, but frankly that's insane.

The 3rd and 4th down stats posted by Coach are definitely significant. The ones below are the really significant ones, IMHO, in addd:

Points per game: 27.5 (32nd -- obviously not good)

Yards per play: 5.5 (18th -- not bad)

Opponent completion %: 57% (10th -- nice)

Yards per carry (rushing): 4.4 (20th -- needs work)

Turnovers: +2 (not bad, but not as good as last year either)

In all, the numbers don't look bad, except for the utterly horrible points per game allowed.

The 4 games, of course, have been against Denver, Carolina, Houston and Baltimore. All of these offenses seem to be in the 10-20 range, so they're roughly average offenses.

Anyone remember what John Madden said to open up the game? The Chiefs thought that just getting rid of Greg Robinson was the answer, and it's proven that not just Gunther Cunningham can help this defense. I'm guessing that by the end of the game, Madden recanted what he previously said.

Just for those who are really bored and love their stats, excluding all INT's and KO/Punts returned for TD's, the Chiefs rank is tied 30th with the Chargers for points given up by the D.

Madden and Al Michaels changed their tune several times during the game depending on the situation. By the end of the game, I doubt Madden knew which side of the fence he was on.

On the defense being 14th, all I can say is Gun is the man. Go CHIEFS!

I think it's entirely possible. The Chiefs are a good team, I think, although their record doesn't necessarily reflect that.

If the Pats don't fix their run defense (currently at 4.6 yards per carry), then Priest Holmes is going to have a field day against us.

I also think that I'm perfectly happy going 14-2 or whatever for the season. An undefeated season would be awesome and all, but I don't really even care. All I want is that Lombardi again...

I agree that points are all that really matters in the end. Of course, you generally allow less points when you allow less yardage. The average per rush needs to improve. And I believe it has over the past couple weeks and will continue to improve. The points allowed will go down.

giving up 21 points a game...Shit, I'd even take that, as long as the offense keeps getting back on track (and they sure as hell snot****ed the vaunted Raven D last night).
