I will have to say that the Cardinals looked damn good today. The Red Sux are up 1 zip already. And my beloved Yankees go tonight. Go Yanks!! And Beantown fans just keep 1918 in the back of your mind :thumb:

I hate both of these teams, probably Minnesota a bit more than New York (at least the Yankmees don't play in a f#cking dome), so I could give a shit who wins this one.

But it's always nice to see NY lay a big fat turd in front of its home crowd. :D

And.... the Yankees lose! The Yankees lose!

I said it before... if the Twins can get their two good starts outta Santana... and then steal one with Radke/Silva or just another bad outing by Brown/El Duque, the Twins can win this series. I think the Twins have what it takes to go to the World Series and win it. We'll see though, the Yanks have the hitting to come back and destroy the next couple Twins pitchers.

Frazod
10-05-2004, 10:17 PM
I'm fairly convinced that Boston will cruise to the World Series in the AL. None of the other three teams can touch them.

Of course, that's been said before.... :spock:

tk13
10-05-2004, 10:21 PM
I think the Twins can beat the Red Sox... especially since they'll have homefield. Pedro Martinez has stunk in the last month... he pitches tomorrow, if he has it together finally then it's a whole different ballgame. But until then, I don't think they're miles ahead of everybody...

Delano

I'm taking this one game at a time. Last year when Minnesota beat NY in the first game I was very pumped and was let down.

T. Hunter's plays were routine for him. I can't beleive how accurate that throw to home was for the double play however.

J. Jones with a homer off of Musina. I think Jones had a .033 average facing Musina. Jacque's dad just died a while back so that's sweet for him.

tk13
10-05-2004, 10:33 PM
Yeah I realize the Twins did the exact same thing and won game 1 last year.... but the Yankees aren't coming right back with Pettite and Clemens this time. We'll see how it goes...

Your right. The weak point all year has been pitching. And I know how pitching wins championships. I still feel we can make it to the Fall Classic but maybe not as strong as years past.

Yeah I would take Rivera over anybody in the post season. I do think our offense can keep us close. If it is close and we are up you can chalk it up for us as a win. The other thing about this team that bothers me is they don't have that chemistry that you need to win. The teams of the late 90's had it. This one still needs to work on it.

I remember the ALDS in 2002. Met some friends at a Tempe bar to watch the D'Backs get eliminated. (well, we met to watch them play... but, I guess they had different plans)

Anway, as we arrived the bar, the Yanks were in process of throwing their postseason away as well. There was a table of Yankees fans at the bar. At various points in the game they'd start chanting.. "Let's go Yankees!" I remember thinking... "Wow.. that takes a lot of nerve... chanting that in a sports bar in a town just one year removed from beating the Yanks in a WS." Being the prick that I am, I joined in the chant. Of course, I replaced "Let's go" with "F*ck the". Needless to say my chant was wildly more popular in the bar.

After the Yanks finally lost... some dude from the group walks over by my table. Starts looking at me all hard like he's gonna start shit. I found it amusing. I think the only other guy in that bar who disliked me to that level was the bartender who came on shift near the end of the game... when I was, of course, lit. He was wearing a backwards fitted red baseball cap. I caught sight of him and yelled, "Holy shit! It's Fred Durst!! No... wait.. it's just some other asshole in a red hat." He didn't seem to appreciate it.

When did everyone lose their f*cking sense of humor?

Anyway... that was story time with ENDelt.

So did he light you up?
Which one? The Yankees fan, or the bartender?

Actually, doesn't matter. The answer's no for both.

The Yankees fan would've been a fool, too. Half the f*cking bar joined in my chant. A Yankees fan jumping an apparent D'Backs fan in the middle of a Phoenix area sports bar in that situation? He wouldn't have ever landed a punch. To his credit, he was apparently smart enough to realize this.

The bartender just shot me a dirty look. I think I had probably already closed out my tab... so I didn't care the bartender thought I was a drunk asshole. But, it's been a couple years.. the details fade.

Of course, the one team I don't want advancing to the World Series is the Astros. Honestly, I hope the Braves pull it out. I'd much rather the Cardinals faced Atlanta than Houston if they make it to the next round.

So far the Cards, Astros and Sox look like the real deal - not just winning their games, but absolutely thrashing their opponents in all phases of competition. The rest are just cannon fodder, IMO.

I'm telling ya... watch out for the Twins. :)

I actually thought the Braves had a decent shot... but the whole time I figured they'd get the Cubs or Dodgers in the first round. That last week of the season the Astros got hot and the Braves just kind of treaded water plus John Thompson got hurt. Plus the Astros have the two pitchers most likely to dominate a game in the NL playoffs.

Larry got drilled in the wrist during the Cubs series over the weekend. He's not 100%, and that's bad news for Atlanta.

As for the Twins, they don't impress me any more than any of the other AL pretenders. It will take some serious self-destruction/curse action to keep Boston out of the Series, IMO.

Man that was crap... the Twins just hit a ground rule double. The runner at first was running on the pitch and was almost to 2nd, but they still only awarded him 3rd base, not home. I think in that situation the umpire has the ability to say that Rivas would've scored (which he would've) if the ball didn't bounce over the fence... the Twins still only had 1 out and couldn't get it done, but still. That was only Rivera's third postseason blown save ever....

tk13

Ahh, I guess it has to be fan interference for the umps to be able to do that. That's rough, Rivas would've scored on that play...

TEX
10-06-2004, 09:08 PM
I'm telling ya... watch out for the Twins. :)

I actually thought the Braves had a decent shot... but the whole time I figured they'd get the Cubs or Dodgers in the first round. That last week of the season the Astros got hot and the Braves just kind of treaded water plus John Thompson got hurt. Plus the Astros have the two pitchers most likely to dominate a game in the NL playoffs.

Clemens did NOT have his best stuff today at all, but it was more than enough as the STROS' bats really helped his cause. It was a big win for the Stros, but it's just the first game and the Baves have owned them in the past so my confidence isn't that high at this point. But something about this Astros team kind of reminds me of the Marlins last year in that they caught fire and were the hottest team going into the post season. This year, it's the Astros who got hot at the right time going 36-10 down the stretch and winning 18 in a row at home, so I suppose anything can happen. As long as the "Killer B's" keep hitting, we have a good chance to get through this series against the Braves. Then, we'll need some luck to beat the Cards. Who knows? I'm just hoping for an ASTROS / Red Sox World Series. :thumb:
