Yep...they have made steady improvements in each game..its been encouraging so far. Last nights win will hopefully be a HUGE bost for their confidence and is really something to be proud of. Id still love to get a pass rushing specialist at RDE though...we have gotten almost nothing out of that position since 1999.

That's pretty sad when we're cheering about being the 14th ranked defense in the NFL after 4 weeks.

Hey it's a big step up when you're used to competing for last place. :(

Competing? I didn't realize we had any competition for last place.

Gunther - I noticed on Benny Sapp's sack last night that Shawn Barber was in a perfect position to pick off any throws to the dump off receiver. Nice going.

took gun four games to get where we all said we hoped and projected as a best case scenario ....middle of the pack.

after being cellar dwellars for three years, the only thing sad about it is your unwillingness to acknowledge the improvement.

They looked good the last 2 games but those first 2 were horrible to watch. I think things will go smoother as the season goes on and if The Chiefs offense stays consistent, we should finish with a winning record atleast.

I was quite pleased with the D last night. McCleon is still getting burnt though. I thought all in all they did a fine job of stopping the Raven's bread and butter - something we couldn't do at all last year.

I do have to give props though to that trick play. Are there any teams who's D wouldn't have bit on that? That is a play Al should look at closely for our O. I'll bet a Priest throwback to Trent for a deep throw to Hall or Horn would pay off big dividens.

McCleon gave up one pass last night - a 9 yard slant. The flea flicker was not his fault.

Didn't say the modified flea flicker was. Said I thought any D would have bit on that one. Also said Al should take a look at using it - with Priest you can be sure every D will bite on it.

I think Al is waiting to pull that rabbit out of his hat for an important must-have game. Something late in the year if we need one win to qualify for the playoffs. Or a playoff game.

With three losses under our belt, we can't afford to lose more than 1-2 more games. So I would consider every game a must win if we want to go to the playoffs.

I just wanted to give my props to the D! They are ranked in the top half of the NFL and they have been in the sewer the last 3 years. What a great improvement. I also think Lional Dalton is kicking some serious ass out there. He is a monster! Did anyone see him blow up Edwin Mulitalo last night. There were times where Dalton blew through their O-Line like it wasn't even there! Good job D-Line!! :thumb:  :toast:

We should have been more wary. Desperate people do desperate things, you know.

Albeit by injury but, Dalton is making a stand for his roster spot! In the two games he has started, he has been a monster! Kudos to the 'back-up' crew.....

I might have to adjust upward my prediction of top 10-15 over the last 8 weeks of the season.

Looks like top 5-10 might be a more accurate prediction as our guys improve.

I thought Gun would improve the D, but I think the primary reason for the D's improvement is Holliday's injury.

As a result, we've seen Browning and Allen at RDE in the last 2 games, not to mention Hicks for a couple of plays last night.
And we've seen Dalton and Siavii in the middle as a result of Browning's move to end.

Dalton has been blowing up the O-Line and getting penetration, while Browning has been far more produtive at End than at DT.

Add in Gun's more aggressive scheme, and we are getting better overall effort all around.

What I've enjoyed most is the CB play. While it's not been spectacular, it's not easy as pie for a team to dump the ball to a WR for a 5, 6 or 7 yard gain because our CBs are playing 10 yards off the ball.

Amen to that. Almost every play I saw, the CB's were near at the line of scrimmage, lined straight up aganist the WR's. We win some, we lose some. But it sure as hell is alot better to lose while you're up right at his face, than to lose by standing 10 to 15 f***ing yards off from the line of scrimmage.

Welcome back Gunther. :)

This is the one area that I thought Gun's influence would be felt almost immediately.

McCleon doesn't really fit into Gun's D, but I thought that Warfield and Bartee would really benefit from Gun's 'in your face' style.

I think I was right about Warfield, and I hope that Bartee will show the same improvement when he gets healthy.

I dont know for sure or not... but I think this is the first post I have seen from Brent Outside of the Pr0n..er ... Girlie pic thread.

******

Side note:: I feel that having a 14th ranked d will inspire teh rest of the team to work harder... and give them a solid confidence that they have been lacking. This is great, GREAT news going into the bye.

yeah 27.5 points against per game is not good. considering we are 22.4 points for... that is a tell-tale sign of why were are 1-3... but I have hope, and this time last week. I had no hope.

If we have another game like monday we will move into the top 7-10. Now we just need to cut down on points allowed. Look at Indy with the LAST defense giving up 410+ a game. I think we will kill Indy this time. heh... at least make them punt.

I still wouldn't get too excited about the D, because they did OK at the beginning of last year too IIRC. Then they started falling apart down the stretch, especially against teams with decent passing games and slashing runners. We need to be able to slow down the Mannings and Culpeppers and Brady's of the world if we want to be successful in the postseason. Because we can't cheat the run every game and dare the QB to beat us. But still, it's great to see improvement. We need to consistently play like that and swarm to the ball.

One thing that bothered me about last night was that we blitzed on that last 4th down play and left the reciever 1 on 1 with Wesley. That's fine except for the fact that the blitz was ineffective and no one got near Boller. A better QB probably doesn't barely overthrow Johnson there and he either has a TD or is in position for the tying FG. We've got to execute the blitz better and more consistently or find a better coverage scheme on those long distance downs, because we've been leaving some big plays open out there on the field. But hey, at least it's not the spinner defense... :)
