Actually i knew what was going to happen on this episode.
But didn't want to tell anyone.
It was all foretold by someone who seen the premiere in Hawaii a few days ago.

My only complaint is that it seemed a little too predictable.
I figured with the obsolete computer and the bunker style architecture, the opening scene was of the guy inside the hatch.
And then to have the guy in the stadium look exactly like the guy from the opening scene, even going so far as to say "See you in another life," I again figured the man in the hatch to be Desmond.
That said, the opening scene was tremendous, as was the rest of the show really. We knew Jack married the woman he was operating on, so we knew she made a recovery, but it was good to see how it started.

With the attention to detail the writers have, here's a mind****er...the INSIDE of the hatch door said "Quarantined" instead of the outside, where it should be.
Was it a mistake, or does it mean that the outside is infected?

I think the dude Jack met at the stadium IS the guy in the bunker, and I also believe the outside is what is infected. The injection thingy had a series of letters and numbers followed by words like injection dosage or something like that.

I doubt it. Walt wouldn't have run from Sayeed - he would have wanted protection. Perhaps Walt was using his super-Walt-powers to project his image somehow.
I think that is why the dog was there, because of Walt.

A few answers that I got from Elliott in the Morning call in show out of DC:
The 'whispers' that Walt was saying was backwards...reversing the audio, he says 'Dont push the button, the button is bad'. Walt apparently mentioned 'the button' in an episode in the first season.
The numbers were on the steroids or whatever the guy was injecting, the mural had the number 108 on it, which all the numbers add up to.
The guy who died in the emergency room died at 8:15, same number as the flight. The guy who died, it's theorized, was the father of the brother/sister who were on the flight. Brother died last season, sister is the cute blonde (dont remember their names).
At the beginning of the show, the the guy in the hatch, keyed in the numbers into the old computer and didnt press execute. When Locke stopped the doctor from pressing the button, that might be the 'button' that Walt referenced. It's theorized that the hatch might be a medical research site or nuclear test site and pushing the button after keying in the numbers could destory the island.
Honestly, I didnt pick any of this up, but the host of the show is verifying everything with a tivo'ed copy of the show as the callers call in. I definately need to record and re-watch the shows.

I got this theory....
in the Hitchhiker's guide series, I think It's in So long and thanks for all the fish
there is this character Wonko The Sane, who builds his house inside out so he can put the rest of the world in an asylum
sort of like the the quareentine on the inside hatch
probably nohig, but it came to me in a dream...
kinda
Danielle has already said that everyone else on her team was sick, so definitely the outside was the quarantine. The whole Desmond stadium scene was very predictable. Question is, how the hell does he tie in with Danielle's team? This race around the world surely wouldn't include such equipment as materials to build an underground quarantine facility, complete with some strong electo-magnetic generator of some sort, computer, stereo, arsenal, etc.
My biggest questions...how long has Desmond been down there? Judging from that sound and computer system, quite a while. Is he able to get out of the bunker, off the island, so he could go recruit Jack and/or others? If so, WTF? What's the point?
So did Desmond leave the island specifically to recruit the good Dr. Jack? To help with the 'illness' maybe?

Maybe Desmond isn't the same guy that was in the stadium. Maybe they are twins?
Here's another theory.
People noticed that in last year's season finale, the Others on the boat looked like older versions of the survivors. It could be that there's a time travel aspect, and that the young Desmond sent Jack (kinda like in Terminator) to the older Desmond on the island. The show could be based on a sort of time travel experience...last season Sawyer was seen reading "A Wrinkle in Time."
Or, to make it even crazier, what if Desmond's future is Jack's past? So when Desmond sees Jack in the hatch, he's seeing him for the first time?
As you can tell, I really dig this show. As long as there isn't some horrible ending to it, it'll easily be one of my favorite shows of all time.
Dartgod
09-22-2005, 12:03 PM
I thought everything in this show was supposed to be based in reality...explainable in real life, if you will.
There's nothing real about time travel, as far as I know. That's why I considered that there may be a twin. How else could Desmond be in both places?
ZootedGranny
09-22-2005, 12:07 PM
You know, I remember reading an interview with I think JJ Abrams that said everything in the show has a logical explanation based in reality, but I can't remember if he shot down time travel. He may have though, and I could be off base.
EDIT: I did a search, and co-creator Damon Lindelhof said it wasn't time travel.
The twins theory does have merit though. If you don't mind a possible spoiler, go to http://www.oceanicflight815.com and click the barcode at the bottom and type in 'theislandiswaiting' (without the apostrophes). You get an excerpt of the script from yesterday's episode that may or may not have been cut or moved. I say possible spoiler because it's unknown whether or not it is going to be a plot point in another episode.

Here's an angle that I just recently thought of.
Desmond meets (intentionally? probably) Jack just after he operates on a woman who's back has been broken in a car accident. He reveals to Jack that he once thought to become a doctor, but that doesn't mean that he doesn't practice medicine. Jack bemoans that he couldn't fix the woman he made a promise too and Desomond said that he should believe in miracles.
Later that day, Jack finds out that the woman miraculously recovers from her spinal injury and, of course, eventually walks again.
Fast forward.
Locke crash lands on a island and after being bound to a wheel chair for a significant period of time, suddenly can walk again. Desmond is on the island. What is the link. Or is there one?

Yes, I believe there is a link. Desmond made that miracle happen for Sara, recruited Jack and Locke(I hadn't made this connection by the way), perhaps this is his lab, and he needed new subjects?

Once again, the show is beginning to disappoint. All week prior to last nights show, they advertised that the 'fate of all the survivors' would be revealed during the show.
There was nothing revealed, in fact, last nights show was the same as episode one in a different perspective. While I can appreciate that as it also touched on the 2 on the raft, but dammit, nothing new happened until the last 2 minutes of the show and NOTHING was revealed.
Hell, there was more substance in the trailers for next week.
The show was good, it offered more substance to the 1 hour first episode that I honestly thought should have been 2 hours last week. I was just displeased with the false advertising as to the substance of last nights show.
It could be a sign that the writers dont know where they're going with this show and are stalling for time.

They went further than usual with the first episode, actually going into the hatch and showing the inside and Desmond, etc. Typically it seems like they would draw that out over 2-3 weeks. Usually the show doesn't move that fast. They tried, and did, reign everything back in this week.
I read somewhere else that they show different trailers for next weeks episode in Canada. The trailer in the Great White North focussed on what happens in the hatch whereas the one I saw was on the raft people.

Also, from everything I've heard, the promos are put together by the network...not by the people making the show. And from some commentaries I've listened to (like Simpsons), the promos aren't appreciated by the people on the show.

Well, I hear ya on that, but I wasn't even intrigued last night. So far, the show had been VERY, VERY interesting and intriguing but last night left me bored to death and wondering why I was watching.
By the way, WTF is so interesting about the raft storyline? Watching those two argue about who's fault it was...yawn. The mutant shark thingy was somewhat interesting.
Bottom line for me is that until now, the situational drama was good, last night they made zero progress and didn't keep it interesting, or dramatic, etc.
Then again, if the storyline is in fact going to be "that deep" it has to slow downa nd be boring as hell for a while so they can tell it.

I guess, given the ads about next week about the 'others', we'll probably get a show from the perspective of the rest of the survivors waiting in the caves for Locke, the doctor and Kate to come back from the hatch--a 3rd perspective on the same night.

It just seems that way. They do 44 minutes of show per hour, just like every other hour long drama. Twenty two minutes of that hour are commercials.

Thank you! I saw something on that shark, but it was too quick to catch. We didn't tape the show, don't have tivo/dvr, so had no way to go back.
Not discussed yet, but here's what I found most interesting last night(other than the 'brand' on the shark):
Desmond asked Locke, 'Are you him?' Combine that with Desmond's lack of surprise, almost an expectation, of Jack's arrival.
Also, while Desmond was talking with Locke, he recants 'So you were flying from Sydney to Los Angeles. So it's all still there?' This ties together many things - Desmond 'almost' becoming a Dr., expecting that Jack the licensed Dr. will arrive for thier next life meeting, the illness discussed by Danielle and brought up again by Desmond to Locke ("Are any of them sick?"), the inside-out Quarantine hatch, Desmonds medication (and again the numbers). Desmond thought this illness should/could have spread worldwide?
Again I wonder aloud (sort of) if Desmond recruited Jack to begin with, but mostly if he left the island specifically to do so, then returned? Or if his race around the world just left him there somehow. The race around the world might explain all of his supplies, but not the materials necessary to build this hatched bunker, where did that come from?

Here's a screen capture of it that I found. It's not exactly the same as the logo found in the hatch. It has a straight line in the center as opposed to the curved "Ying/Yang" center of the other logo. Very interesting though, and I never noticed it while watching last night.

Several things peaked my interest...
1. The emblem on the Shark's tale...and everywhere else.
2. Executing the numbers changed the countdown to 108, which, of course is the sum of the numbers...
3. I still suspect "him" to be Walt...Desmond obviously has no idea who or what "him" is supposed to look like.
4. Apollo candy bars - google it - it comes up with a Candy Bar made in Asia several decades ago...I think the island must tie in with Jin's mysterious adventure.
5. Ana-Lucia had a gun stuck in her pants in the preview for next week. Where the hell did that come from????

Along these lines, I read somewhere that one of the cards Michael sent Walt had two snowmen on the front, with the joke about what did one snowman say to the other (answer: Do you smell carrots too?).
I've read this too and again, is a fallacy. The card being referenced by this had a penguin on it. The joke was; What is black and white and red all over? Answer: a penguin with a sunburn.

does anyone think him could be hurley? you have to hear me out, but it is just a guess ya know. hurley was in a mental hospital with a "guy" and remember the guy was always repeating those "numbers" that hurley won the lottery with. also if anyone remebers in season one hurley told a joke about what did one snowman say to the other snowman. and when locke possed as "him" desmond asked locke "what did the snowman say to the other snowman"
My wife's theory was that "him" is Hurley, but I don't know why.
Here's a screen capture of it that I found. It's not exactly the same as the logo found in the hatch. It has a straight line in the center as opposed to the curved "Ying/Yang" center of the other logo. Very interesting though, and I never noticed it while watching last night.

Cool, thanks! I don't recognize that at all, but looks like the hatch itself.

The logos (shark, fuse box, mural) read DHARMA. Dharma is an Indian (as in India not Chief Wahoo) term. Dharma allows one to find happiness within themself. The logo consists of a snake wrapped around an octogon with the word dharma in the middle. I, myself, don't get it. I also believe that Hurley is "him" that Desmond is waiting for. Oh, and 2 weeks ago when Walt was standing in the forrest he whispered something that was inaudible. If you play that backwords it says something along the lines of, "don't press the button, the button is bad." Isn't this just crazy? I can't wait for next weeks' episode.

Hell, there was more substance in the trailers for next week.

The logo on the shark was a little different than the logo on Desmond's jacket. The jacket had a little ying-yang type thing in the middle.
When I heard the sound clip on the internet of Walt, to me it sounded like "press the button, no button is bad." Which kind of makes sense now that you see there is some type of countdown device; rumored to be a self destruction mechanism.

It's The Mamas and The Pappas, but you've probably already figured that out. I don't know what significance, if any, it would have other than the fact that it is old, like all the other stuff down in the bunker.

It could be the lyrics correlate to Desmond's situation:

While I can appreciate that as it also touched on the 2 on the raft, but dammit, nothing new happened until the last 2 minutes of the show and NOTHING was revealed.Nah ah ah! We learned that Kate likes candy bars!
And this, from TWoP:
I don't know what everyone's complaining about. I mean, look at everything we learned in this latest episode:
-- Michael once had to give up Walt, but didn't want to.
-- Jack followed Locke and Kate down the hatch.
-- Locke got caught by Desmond.
-- Jack recognized Desmond.
-- Charlie has a statue of heroin.
-- Sawyer and Michael like to argue.
I mean, it's not like we knew any of these things before last night. Right?...Right?

Ive been critical of this series, but last nights episode did actually provide some food for thought. I especially enjoyed the argument about whether or not the countdown is real or just an experiment to see if a person will continue to do it without questioning why. The whole blind faith/'I want to know why' was interesting especially from Locke given the flashbacks in the episode.
I found myself curious in the flashback, if and how he got his car keys back from his father.
I really did appreciate this episode, probably the best one since they discovered the hatch and it had the 'numbers' on it back in February.

Oh, and I thought I read somewhere that the creators ARE making it up as they go along. There is no pre-determined end-point they're working toward. Which, I guess if you think about it, you can't have because you don't know how long the series will last. You have to keep dragging it out until people get tired and ABC cancels the show, then quickly resolve everything in a hastily written final episode.

Interesting. And probably true.
But I must say this: I read some of the Lost forums and see folks say things like, "Hey, I bet that guy in the training film, third from the left, was the guy on Episode 9 last year who was standing six people behind Locke at the ticket counter at the airport checking his watch. I couldn't tell what numbers the hands on the watch were pointing to, but I'm sure it's a key clue!"
I just get exhausted with this. I'm beginning to feel the same way I eventually did with "X-Files," trying to keep the whole alien/gov't conspiracy plots straight. Halfway through the series I just started pining for the "monster" episodes, I was so tired of the ridiculous machinations of the conspiracy stuff.

The girl that got thrown in the pit with michael, sawyer and jin was in an earlier flashback with jack. I think they were having a drink at the airport. I read over the summer that she was going to be on the show, and her and jack would have a love interest, this would make her and kate hate eachother. It said she would be brought in as being found with another group that was on the other end of the plane. after last night, i don't think that is the case. why would she punch sawyer after him telling her they were in a plane wreck? also on the previews for next week Jin can speak perfect english. very strange.

I haven't gotten to that point yet, but I certainly see it going that direction. I've made mention of the similarity to X Files several times to my wife. I'm still intrigued by LOST though....the connections made to previous shows really pique my interest.
I also enjoy the glimpses of clues that I don't pick up on while watching, but find out about later on the net (i.e. the DHARMA symbol on the shark fin last week). The clue this week that has me going is the glimpse of the book The Third Policeman. Apparently, the writers on this show said that those that are familiar with this book will have a better understanding of what's going on. I read several reviews of the book, and it clearly has played a part in the development of LOST.

Could you explain?
Tropical storm knocked out my satellite at the very end of the show. Help me out: What happened right after they punched the "execute" key and the clock went back to 108?
Locke sat down at the terminal and said "I'll take the 1st shift." Jack walked out. The end.
Next week's previews show the older black lady walking into the food pantry, and Charlie confronting Hugo about the food saying 'I thought we were friends.' Other storyline is the 'Others' bringing up the 3 guys from the pit to talk to them, at one point that chick decks Sawyer again, and he says 'You hit me again and I'll kill you.'
I found the whole "countdown" thing a metaphor for watching the series itself. I think the creators are mocking us.
heh, that's pretty funny!
So I'm thinking these 'Others' that captured the 3 guys are not the 'Others' at all, but more survivors that have turned Lord of the Flies. So what was the story with Hugo's friend from the psych ward again? I bet that guy was actually in the hatch, entering the code every 108 minutes!

Sometimes there are characters on shows that you hate because they are well written villains. Other times there are characters that you hate because they are so stupid and annoying it makes you want to stop watching the entire show. Anna Lucia falls into the latter group.
I think Lost is a perfect example of where writers probably had a decent 2-3 season script that they are now trying to stretch because of the shows popularity.

That's a pretty harsh assessment. I think last night's episode went a long way toward explaining why she's such a loner bitch.
And a HOT loner bitch. I think Jack will melt that ice cube.
As for a single character ruining a show, I instantly think of Weaver from ER. As soon as that nasty carpetmunching bitch became a lead character, I quit watching the show and never went back. Anna Lucia isn't anywhere near that bad.
Plus, Anna Lucia whacked Shannon, who was ALSO an annoying bitch. That's just a trade up for me because I prefer brunettes. At least Anna Lucia has some useful survival skills. :D

This may have been said already, but I am a lazy reader.
When Ekho said Ana Lucia, the name a much bigger bell with Jack than someone who just sat next to him in a bar for a few minutes. Also, at the end of the episode they share a look from a distance that seemed to have more to it than "You were in the bar, you were in the other part of the plain, and now you're alive."
I think that after Ana Lucia got back from her business, she and Jack continued to drink, and may have done a lot of flirting, or possibly even more.
I just don't buy the fact that a slight meeting with someone would make that much of an impression.
Also, Ana Lucia's mother is the same woman that forced Sayid into ratting out his friend for the chance to know where his woman was. I wonder if that was before or after she was a police captain.
Any thoughts?

On any other show I'd say those were both pretty big reaches...
Her b/f was named Danny. Also, they did not know each other when they were sitting next to each other at the airport bar.

Anything that might have made a relationship there had to happen after the airport bar scene.

As for a single character ruining a show, I instantly think of Weaver from ER. As soon as that nasty carpetmunching bitch became a lead character, I quit watching the show and never went back.
I don't like her, either. She isn't on the show that much anymore...

This is what seperates Lost from any other show... it's not just a show, it's a continuing interactive investigation, and we're the detectives.
I love it.
This season is not quite at where last season was, but I think it's starting to pick up.
As for A-L and Jack, that's a definite possiblity. I think maybe Jack was just sort of lovestruck and was thinking about her a lot.

Also, Ana Lucia's mother is the same woman that forced Sayid into ratting out his friend for the chance to know where his woman was. I wonder if that was before or after she was a police captain.

Relax gang, they needed more characters to sustain the show. Admittedly, they incorporated the other survivors WAY too fast and sloppy, but I'm gonna wait and see if they can get the story back on track once the new shows start up again. "Lost" with a dissappointing stretch is still better than 90% of all other shows on TV.

Just be glad you endured the torture over a month period. My wife and I quit that show when season 2 was slow as hell. It's just not entertaining enough to warrant the investment of time, IMO.
So what exactly is the 'Revelation' show at 7 tonight? Another recap? Followed by a new episode...finally!!

Looking back at the dates of this thread, I can see how that long of a wait would have been torture... seeing it all in one month was the way to go, I think. It all fits nicely together. But had I watched it over the last 16 months or so, I think I would be very frustrated.
I'm kinda sad that I didn't wait to start watching it until the whole of season 2 was out on DVD. I just didn't realize how long it had been out already without closure.
I think from what I understand, that the revelation episode tonight is a kind of re-cap...

I disagree
I could tell from the first episode that they knew exactly where it was going... take one example:
Episode 19 from the first season where Boone and Locke find the plane, and Boone uses the radio. He hears someone talking, and when you first hear it, you think, 'what? did he say something about a plane crash?' but you quickly forget about it when the plane falls and Boone is hurt.
Much later in season 2 episode 7, we get the other side of that radio transmission. It was from the tail end of the plane survivors. I saw that some of you in this thread feel that the tail end survivors were brought in to add more characters, but I disagree. We knew from the first episode that Rose's husband would be found. They way this show is, they don't put things in that don't mean anything. Rose was so sure for more than one episode that her husband was alive, and I believed her. I knew we'd see him at some point.
I think these writers have it planned out for at least five years, just like it says on the special features disc of season one.

There are almost to many characters on the show to remember. About the time they fade away the show springs them to life (Charlie and Claire for example).

Seriously you would think that Kate (Evangeline Lilly) star quality would bring enough attention for other shows or movies to want her. Especially getting more time in front of the camera then what she gets now.
I would think if she is offered better contracts she would eventually get written off the show.

Great. My mental image just went from naked Kate to Mr. Echo pounding Charlie in the ass.

Im with Fraz, the Mr. Echo back story was interesting but the overall plot is moving foward pretty damn slow.
I guess there was the whole cloud thing but I guess I was expecting a little more.
Also just guessing, but I wonder if the cloud is some kind of nano machine related to the facility.

Mr. Eko and the smoke (http://lost.cubit.net/pics/2x10/)
Thanks for the link. I noticed the flashing when the "monster" moved close, but I didn't pick up the pictures in the background.
Pretty neat. It seems to be able to read peoples minds to find their deepest secrets. It is probably related to the materialization (or the smoke materializes into) the objects we see on the island - Jacks dad, Walt, the black horse, etc.
Lot of impatient people round here. We already had Anna Lucia's background, plus all the main characters last year. Now it was Eko's turn, relax people!
So now Locke and Eko have stared down the 'monster', and have both been spared. Obviously there is a similarity between Locke and Eko, both 'men of faith'. The images caught within the smoke are interesting, hopefully somebody isn't pulling a photoshop prank on us(no offense intended Baby Lee). If it's legit, then the monster has some mindreading capacity, kinda related to The Others who only took the good people, they just know.
Any input on the last line from the computer? "You need to com", before we got cut off. Wasn't sure that last character was an "m" or "n" either. "You need to come get me" perhaps?
