View Full Version : GOP Poised To Take 3-4 Seats In Senate Races (Polls Show GOP Leads)

Focus on senate control has been taken backseat to the presidential race, but recent polls show that the GOP is not only likely to hold the senate majority, but expand it as well. Currently there are 11 seats classified as "Battlegrounds" that both sides have targeted and/or are poised to switch party. Out of those 11 seats, there are six that are currently or were formerly (heading into this election) held by the Dems and five that are currently or were formerly held by the GOP.

The GOP is presently having much more success in both defending their existing senate seats as well as securing previously Democratic seats. The Dems currently have the leads in Alaska and Illinois while the other three GOP seats appear to be trending towards staying Republican. Net gain +2 seats for the GOP.

The Dems, meanwhile are poised to lose at least five of the six seats (and that sixth seat, held by minority leader Tom Daschle, is tied in the most recent poll) according to the latest surveys.

If the polls remain consistent through election day the GOP will pick up a net gain of 3 senate seats (and possibly 4 depending on how the Daschle-Thune race breaks):

* If Vitter doesn't receive 50% of the vote a run-off election will take place to determine the winner, presently there are multiple Democratic candidates which is why Democrat John is currently so far behind.

Louisiana has an asterisk...what does that mean?

IIRC LA has never elected a Republican senator.

EDIT: Either that just got added or my bedtime is way overdue.

Sorry...added to the update...just stating that LA will have a run-off election of Vitter doesn't reach 50%.

Dino doesn't do a lot for me, but neither does Christine Gregoire. Rossi's campaign comes across to me like a cookie cutter campaign thrown together by a handful of UW poly sci students... Though I was impressed by the McCain endorsement. That always scores points in my book.

But I'm planning on voting for Ruth Bennett, the Libertarian Candidate. She's proposing a fresh idea on Washington State tax structure, and supports the educational strucutre that I personally envision for the future.

I'll be voting nearly a straight Libertarian ticket, though, I'm tempted to vote for Nethercutt, just because Patty Murray bugs me... Though, I was unimpressed with some of the attack ads that Nethercutt ran, so he kind of turned me off. But Murray's answer to everything is throw more money at it. I'll make a gut check at ballot time. Nethercutt could use my vote, but so could my party.

Actually, I'll be surprised if Coors doesn't win. Colorado has NEVER been as close as the Kerryites would want you to believe and I think Salazar is going to be hurt by his association with Kerry. As will a lot of other candidates (see Daschle, Castor, and Bowles).
