Congratulations RED SOX fans!

Iíve taken a gut punch from some Planet members for being a Cardinals fan. While Iím doubled over in pain, some other Chiefs Planet members beat me about the head and shoulders till I collapsed into a withering incoherent mess of a human being. At my most vernable point Alichiefs put a clown suit on me. Itís all good clean fun.

I would like to thank all of the Chiefs Planet members that have pmíd me and sent emails over the last few weeks to let me know they were also Cardinal fans.:thumb: They didnít want to post and then get roughed up by a hater. Such is life on the Planet. This is a Chiefs BB, not a baseball one. Yes, we do talk about other things besides Chiefs football but this will be my last Cardinal thread that I will start here on the planet.

IMHO the series turned on:
1. Game 1 bases loaded, 1 out, bottom of the eighth, game tied. Rolen and Edmond coming up. We get zero runs.
2. 8 Red Sox errors in the first two games and the Cardinals canít take advantage of them. If the Cardinals would have won Game 1 and the series all the talk would have been about Manny's dumb play costing the Red Sox the series.
3. In game 3 runners on 2nd and 3rd no outs. 1 run game. Walker, Pujols, Rolen and Edmonds due up. 0 runs scored. That base running mistake by Suppan was totally embarrassing. Little leaguers know better.
4. In game 3 bases loaded. 1 out. 1 run game. Edmonds at the plate. 0 runs scored.

When the season began even the biggest homer among us Cardinal fans never expected us to make it to the World Series. We had no pitching. We won 105 games and beat a damn good Houston team to make it to the series. Not a bad season. We have Rolen and Pujols signed to long term deals. We will get another shot at the World Series again someday soon. Only one team can win the World Series. We have 9 World Championships to soothe the wounds of losing our chance for a tenth.

The Red Sox have been waiting 86 years for a championship. The Red Sox were playing better baseball these last 4 games. They deserve to win. To say the Cardinals blew the series or choked is the same as saying that the Red Sox were lucky, that the Cardinals gave the series to them. That the Red Sox were no good and that St. Louis choking is the only reason they are the World Series Champions. Let the Red Sox have their moment in the sun. They have earned it. :thumb: Congratulations RED SOX fans!

A couple of things to clear up :
For the moron Cardinal fans that must have an excuse other than we just got beat by a better team I offer these excuses.
1. The phantom 3rd strike on Edmonds with the bases loaded in Game 1,
2. We lost our best pitcher to injury before the series began.
3. Phobia jumped on our bandwagon and derailed it.

The Cardinal fans that think the bad call at first cost us the 1985 World Series are morons. It didn't help us but Jack Clark's dropped foul ball didn't help, losing Vince Coleman our lead off hitter and spark plug to jump start Whitey Ball didn't help, getting our ass's handed to us in game 7 didn't help. The next day after the call I was telling people to shut up about the call. Please just let it go Cardinal fans. Itís been 19 years.
The Royals beat us fair and square. Let them crow about it and talk smack. Itís the smack of the righteous. The Royal fans here are good fans. They have stuck with their team even though they have no chance of winning a World Series in the foreseeable future. Reminds me of the loyalty of Cardinal fans.

Now lets go get some payback on Peyton and co. this Sunday.

Not sure which thread in which to post this, but I guess this one will do ...

I hate all things St. Louis, but I have got to give major props to the Cards fans. The way they applauded for Boston was perhaps the classiest thing I've ever seen.

I may not like the team, but St. Louis baseball fans have got to be, without a doubt, some of the best in all sports. Very, very impressive.

Mark M, I appreciate the comments. I'm guilty as hell about sticking out my chest about my team. I think thats cool for any fan to do. I think the line thats not suppose to be crossed gets blurry when you trash talk another team to feel good about your team.

The Royals beat us fair and square in 1985.

The Red Sox swept us in 4 games.

Nothing but props should be given to the victor. :thumb:

I didn't bring it up 'til now due to superstition [so much for that now]. But the morning after the first game of the WS, I was taking the trash to the dumpster in the alley. Laying there on the ground about 5 feet from the dumpster was a dead cardinal.

you know.... Baseball is a real shitty sport these days. No salary cap, no steroid testing. But the Bosox didnt have the huge payroll of the yanks or the cards, and that makes things a little better anyway. All I have to say is, I never rooted for Boston, but only rooted against the yanks and the cards.

The Cardinals has the lowest payroll of all the final four teams. If thats your reason to root against them, it wasn't a valid reason. They are not poor but they are not in the elite either. They are usually found in the top third. Around # 10-13.

Yeah, I'm a bitter Royals fan. As much as I hate the Yankees, I'd rather have had the curse remain and have the Yankees go to the World Series. Sadly, the wrong team was in the World Series, it should've been Houston instead of St. Louis. Then again, showing George Steinbrenner that acquiring all the top superstars in the league won't buy you a World Series was pretty humbling. Had the Yankees kept Alfonso Soriano, who would have put way better numbers compared to Alex Rodriguez, and signed Vladimir Guerrero over Gary Sheffield, the Yankees probably would have been in the World Series and swept every team.

You want to start a fight, I'll f*cking fight. Let's go.

Last time I checked Kansas City was in Missouri. And along with Kansas City, St. Louis is there as well. Thus making Missouri have both Royals and Cardinals fans. There are a lot of Cards fans on here.

BigRed, a Cardinals fan, decided to make a thread about the World Series which his team was in. To bad your team wasn't, you picked the sh*ttier team from Missouri to route for. Have fun pulling for maybe 50 wins next pal.

True I am a Patriots/Redsox Fan, and I decided to post in a thread that was of some interest to me because my team was in there. If this was a Chiefs/Patriots thread what would the f*cking problem be? Right there wouldn't be one!

Don't bitch and cry because the Royals have zero chance of doing dick the next 10 years. If you don't like what this thread is about go f*cking read something else somewhere else, and don't let the door hit your ass on the out.

...and you want to talk about pillowbiters. I'm not the one with Tom f*cking Cruise as my Avitar pal. That is pretty gay! There is a beefcake thread for you in the pictures forum that I'm sure has some more guys you may like.......maybe even with their shirts off and everything. Go check it out.

BTW: I personally was happy for the Bosox fans, because they've had 86 years of getting the wooden dowl rod up the hoo ha. Now that they've won one though, they're basically the Yankees Light...because they essentially bought their WS trophy. Rich get richer, so to speak.

Cards just didn't show up. LaRussa is just like Mike Martz...both of them remind me of Wile E. Coyote. Legends in their own minds....

Share the wealth, level the playing field. Give KC and cities like it a fair shot once again. Else MLB will just be another version of the WWF...everything is staged and predictable.

While we're at it, how bout an All-Star game for KC? I was at the last one...in 1973!!! (gosh I'm old...)

I went to 2 of the 3 last games that the Sox played in Oakland, when they were on about a 9 game winning streak.

I went for the express purpose of judging wether the A's had any chance to do something in the playoffs, or that they just had an above average season with decent young talent.

I got my answere. The sox steamrolled us like no other team the whole season. After the game there were a lot of Sox fans, this is normal at Oakland for visiting teams as their fans regulary outnumber A's fans, I couldn't help but give the props to the Sox. They were CLEARLY a quality team up and down the line up. The A's had no chance in any of those 3 games and were never in one of them.

I soliced myself with the thought that they always choke when it counts, but they just had a DAMN good team, thats all.

Congratulations, you have the best BB team in the world right now.

I knew it was only a matter of time before this would start.

The major difference bettween the Yankees buying their WS Titles and the Sox winning theirs is that the Yanks go out and literally buy the best free agents every year. Sheffield, Brown, Vasquez and Arod this year alone. If they won this year it would have been bought.

The Sox have had their stars for a few year. Manny, Pedro, Damon have all been here for at least 4 years. Tek we got with Lowe in a trade with the Mariners way long ago. We have been building this team for a few years.

Schilling, true we got him this year, but it was thrrough a trade. We make trades to get our stars, New York just hands them millions to come and play for them.

That is the difference, our payroll is huge becuase we resign them to be that way.

The payroll is huge. Exactly. That's why you can pay your good guys to keep them. That's why you have Johnny Damon in Center and the Royals don't. That's why the Astros had Beltran in Center and the Royals don't. So don't talk to us about trades. Just follow the money. It's as simple as that. The rich keep teams together, the poor don't. I'm just saying the baseball landscape is skewed and unfair to a majority of MLB teams. Not only the BoSox, but for any team with a payroll in the top 20% of MLB. You may not win if you spend a lot of $, but you definitely won't win if you don't (Royals, Expos, Arizona, etc.)

As a die hard Cardinal fan i would agree with everything EXCEPT:

Saying the Cardinals did not choke is not accurate. By saying STL choked is not saying Boston got lucky. Boston kicked our ASS
every way possible. But our 2-3-4-5-6- batters could not handle the spotlight or the Boston pitchers.

I say the Cardinals did CHOKE. But Boston had alot to do with that.

Their problem wasn't hitting, their problem was the fact that their pitching staff was awful.

Tom Verducci has an excellent article on why the Red Sox crushed the Cards in the WS.

Here's the most important part of the article:

"Privately, the Red Sox knew before the series started that their hitters against the St. Louis pitchers was a mismatch. St. Louis had no one, other than closer Jason Isringhausen, with what scouts refer to as a "plus" pitch -- something a pitcher can throw by a hitter even in a hitter's count. The Cardinals were loaded with right-handed, finesse-style pitchers who relied on getting hitters to chase pitchers that moved out of the strike zone. Boston's lineup, however, is brutally relentless at taking pitches and making pitchers come into the strike zone (see chart). "

Come on Cadmonkey. :shake: You didn't win by having a good farm system or great trades. You bought these players that only the Yankees, Sox, Angels can afford. I think that if you take those players and put them on the Royals roster tommorrow that they will be a legitamate contender for a World Series title. No, money doesn't gaurantee you a World Series title but it buys you a better chance than the next guy.

Big Time Free Agents bought by the Red Sox:
Schilling
Ramirez
Pedro
Damon
Faulke

Big Time Free Agents bought by the Cardinals or Royals:

No, no. I understand that completly. My point was that we CAN go out and get these guys but we have had them for a few years. The Yanks do it every year. We didn't just go out and buy it this year, all those guys, minus Schilling and Foulke, are seen as a mortgage. This was a bought championship a few years down the line.

Take Arizona out of that equation please, they just won the Championship a couple years ago.
No, you have to include Arizona. The reason they were the worst team in baseball this year is because they mortgaged their future after they won the WS. Now the bills have come due, they dumped players and payroll the last two years, and they've got nothing left. End result: From champs to sewer in two or three short years.

They bought their WS title with money they didn't have. Same thing happened to the Florida Marlins the first year that they won it all.

Hey, don't get me wrong. I'm happy the BoSox finally won a WS. Much better than the Cards or Yanks winning, that's for sure. I'm just saying it's a shame that half of MLB teams are dead meat before the season even starts. That's no way to run a railroad.

Boston is really lucky to have 2 championship teams, 2 more palyoff teams in the Celtics and Bruins. I guess the pressue is on the Celtics to win an NBA Championship, since the Patriots havent lossed in a year and BoSox won the world series.

Today's Kennedy/Lincoln-esque oddity. Do you realize that it had been 18 years since the Red Sox were last in a World Series back in '86, and 86 years since the Red Sox last won a World Series in '18.... 18 plus 86 equals 104, and wouldn't you know that this was the 104th season of professional baseball in Boston.... *Twilight Zone Music*
