View Full Version : What are y'all drinking tonite?

I finished off a bottle of Milton Park Australian Shiraz with dinner, and then opened a bottle of Waterbook Columbia Valley (Wash.) Melange, which I'm slowly draining.

I've got Macallen scotch and a Montecristo Serie V cigar set aside for victory tonite, if such a fate shall befall me.

I am already celebrating. I brought out the Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit a little bit ago.

I'm not a smoker, but now I am wishing I had picked up a fine cigar for later this evening.......

You find those in a file drawer during the move?

Right now I'm drinking some Fat Tire brewskis with my chili. Maybe later I'll get out the scotch. The cigar sounds like a fine idea.

I'm ready for anything that puts me out of my misery with this head cold...

And I have to go to class tonight!

Argh!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe a lemondrop or a martini? Or, hell, straight bourbon...

Straight bourbon. But if you decide not to go that route, fix yourself a lemon drop martini and have the best of both worlds.

I wish. That's home stash.

Not to hijack my own thread, but would you believe: They issued SIPPY CUPS (y'know, coffee mugs with lids) to all employees. All beverages must be consumed in the OFFICIAL sippy cups, so there's no spillage on the Taj Mahal's fresh carpeting and desktops. Jeez Louise, do we get Melba toast and nap time, too?

Well, I haven't actually WORKED there yet -- I was off Monday (field trip with my son's class to St. Augustine, Fla.) and today (Election Day, school was out and me and Mrs. Khatru, a teacher, went Christmas shopping). But I did deliver boxes to my new office Sunday, so I scouted out the place. It's ... awesome. Lot's more room, everything new and modern. I can't help thinking though that it's too ostentatious. Just overdone. Hell, we're just a newspaper, not corporate headquarters. I'd prefer they saved some bucks and gave me an extra $50 a month in my paycheck.

You never "worked" at the other place as far as I could tell.

;)

On another point you're not allowed to use words like "ostentatious" just because you are drinking.

Yeah, I know the routine. Thing is, at my age (38, married, two kids) I don't get many opportunities to get shit-faced anymore. Everyone else is in bed, I'm alone with my big screen and Internet and bottles of booze.

No doubt, I've gotten a bad habit of needing 2/3 a highball [5-6 ounces] right before bed in order to sleep.
But I think I'm OK as I have no compulsion to drink in any other setting, just the 'nodding off' setting.

Or a physical dependency.

I sleep better with some liquor in me.

If it wasn't for the whole legality and "wanting to stay employed" thing, I'd just smoke a bowl or two each night. Always put me to sleep much better, got better sleep, and no hangover.
