It lost big time.

Apparently, people have no issues with KC being a cultural f**king backwater.

i think if they had been a bit more organized... and had more planning, it could have been a go.

180 mil for Kauffman and 180 mil for Arrowhead? Well, if they had had some architectural firm come in and say... OK.. we need 118 million for Kauffman for adequate enhancements... and 193 million in enhancements for Arrowhead...

The tax will be for 12 years...

The art opera center needs 200 million...

once that money is obtained, the tax stops... blah blah...

it could have gone through. Way too vague.

That was the biggest problem with a lot of people: no end date. You add in two other factors (the first bi-state for Union Station -- which was managed poorly and now needs more money -- and the fact that a majority of JoCo folks want to enjoy ammenities in Jackson County without having to pay for it) and you get a failed proposition.

Hopefully, they'll find a way to get both the arts and the stadiums done. I just hope they don't tie them together like they did this time. Big mistake IMHO.

there's the problem...the tax would never stop. Like the KC Earnings tax.

Jackson County, if it's serious, is going to have to issue bonds...that's the only way voters will approve funding.

Mark there were several issues that made people nervous.

The tax doesn't end

No representation by the other counties on how the money will be spent. taxation without representation. not cool.

The other Mayors/Civic groups were not really consulted before the plan was announced and they had reservations about some of the plan. You want to form a coalition of different counties forma coalition of different counties. Don't decide how its going to be and then expect people to get on board.

A lot of people want a downtown baseball stadium

How does Arrowhead and Kauffman need exactly 180 mil each? Who came up with that #?

Why wasn't the Royals more out in front of this? Why wasn't the commercial with George Brett at the "k"?

Combining Arts and Sports together on the ballot was a mistake.

So how long before they re-work everything and go for it again?

It seems like some things just keep showing up on the ballot until they finally get approved.

If they make adjustments and address issues could they be successful next year?

Yeah everyone expects it to be back. They will get all of the mayors/ chamber of commerce's/civic groups on board with a plan before its announced.

It will not be a sports/arts vote.

They will come up with some type of funding other than a $1.3 billion sales tax.

The tax doesn't end
Definitely an issue that should’ve been resolved. But is $3 a month going to make anyone go bankrupt? Hell, that’s only half of the tax break I got from Bush, so I see it as a push. ;)

No representation by the other counties on how the money will be spent. taxation without representation. not cool.
Hmmm … I heard a guy on 810 say that the money would be administered by a committee that had reps from all counties involved. Also, anyone who works in KC, but doesn’t live in the city, is already being taxed without being represented via the KC earnings tax.

The other Mayors/Civic groups were not really consulted before the plan was announced and they had reservations about some of the plan. You want to form a coalition of different counties forma coalition of different counties. Don't decide how its going to be and then expect people to get on board.
Yeah, that was fooked up.

A lot of people want a downtown baseball stadium
While that’d be nice and all, I still can’t figure out why people think that will suddenly fix all of the problems with downtown. Anyone who does is delusional. Building a stadium downtown won’t magically fix all of the problems – there are several things that need to happen first:

For a downtown to be viable, you need people to live there. You get people to live there by: a.) having places for them to live; b.) providing them with somewhere to shop (sorry, but driving 20 minutes to the grocery store ain’t gonna cut it); c.) you fix the school district so families will actually call downtown home.
The next thing they’d need to do is fix the infrastructure. The roads would need to be repaved, as well as upgrades to water and sewer lines.
Then, where the hell is everyone going to park?? Parking downtown is a nightmare right now, so the only option is parking garages. That, in turn, will eliminate tailgating.
What about the 281 days a year when there isn’t a baseball game going on? What the heck are people going to do then?

How does Arrowhead and Kauffman need exactly 180 mil each? Who came up with that #?The Royals actually had line-by-line plans to use that money wisely. The Chiefs, OTOH, were way too vague. That, IMHO, is what pissed a lot of people off.

Why wasn't the Royals more out in front of this? Why wasn't the commercial with George Brett at the "k"?
I honestly think Glass wanted this to fail so he can either get a new stadium (say, out by the Speedway … ?) or move the team. I don’t trust the guy any further than I could throw him.

Combining Arts and Sports together on the ballot was a mistake. I agree 100%, and that’s why I’m so disappointed. The stadiums are merely an afterthought for me – it’s art education and the chance for my son to actually live in a city with some culture. Of course, we don’t even have a classical station on the FM dial, so maybe I’m expecting too much …

Theres already talk of BSIII the BS transit proposal. If that passes KC will have LR's coming out their asses.

The Mayor of Overland Park was on the radio saying that they were "promised" representation but it wasn't official yet. It's not a part of the by-laws but would be added later. Trust us. This is a major example of this just being forced on people.

I didn't have a vote and I'm a disapointed but I can see why the voters voted the way they did. I mean did they even have a drawing of what Arrowhead would look like after the renovation? People aren't gonna pay when they have no idea what they are getting. Does make one think someone was trying to pull a fast one.

Ya know, I really didn't feel like paying the extra taxes, but I was a little disappointed the vote didn't pass. It would be nice to have a few more amenities at Arrowhead. I couldn't give two shits about the K and Arts. I have several gigs of great art "porn" right here on my puter! Blah… culture…. I have an AMC “30” less than a mile from my house.

Pretty much. I do have issues with Lamark asking for $$$ to renovate, when I believe he has enough. I would have like to seen seperate issues for the arts, and the stadiums.

Does anyone thin this may have been hastily thrown together to coincide with the Chief's success last season? I don't know when this issue first arose, but I wonder if they thought they could slide it through this election while the town was high on KC football (not anticipating the Chiefs pissing themselves in the first four weeks).

The one thing I do know is that KC needs to do something to renovate those stadiums. Arrowhead is in great condition for a stadium of that age, but the Chiefs are missing out on a ton of revenue by not getting with the times. You may say you don't care about the team's revenue, but someday it could determine whether KC has a team.

You mean raise ticket prices? As Denise would say, "ooops!"
