Introduced in the middle east by a deposed despot, the "Spider Hole" defense has found its way into the American sports scene. It can be seen weekly, simply by viewing a Kansas City Chiefs football contest. This remarkable defensive scheme has revolutionized American sports in general and the NFL in particular. How does it work and what are its effects?

It relies greatly on the athletes to overcome any game plan or scheme by imploying the "personal foul - 15 yards" technique. When used often enough, this defense will produce its greatest asset. It will undermine the efforts of a record breaking offense, derail the team's playoff plans, and shame the team's fans and coaches.

While the penalties may be its cornerstone one cannot overlook the importance of other elements that are often used. Those include:
1) missed tackles
2) blocking your own player out of the play
3) missed coverages

To keep the "Spider Hole" defense effective it is also important that key members show no ability to learn. In other words, after a 4 game pre-season and 9 regular season games, its members must not show any signs of doing anything different. They need to continue to do the same things every game other wise the entire concept is disrupted. Consistancy is essential to this scheme but it can be replaced with a general decline in performance as long as it gets worse every week.

The Chiefs have that game plan down to a T.

Many of our guys were surprising over-qualified to play this defense but somehow managed to get a deferment...
