I want to boycott Trading Spaces fanatics but I must admit that I have watched and enjoyed the extreme makeover show on ABC. Mainly cuz Ty is one hot dude.

Sorry, I meant meatloaf as in the food. Meatcake.

Meatloaf the band is pretty good, even tho he supposedly didn't write most of his songs.

Meatloaf the food can be good, too.

Depends on who makes it. Is there any other food with a large a variance as meatloaf? I don't think I've ever had meatloafs made by two different people that were the same.

Yup. The traditional leftover hamburger makes a pretty bad meatloaf, but there are some great versions.

My favorite:

2 lbs of ground round (chuck if you wanna go cheap)
1 bunch of broccoli
8 slices of ham
.25 cup of grated parmesan
.5 cup of Mascarpone cheese
1/2 onion diced
2 eggs
.5 cup of white wine
.25 stick of butter
Basil, Oregano, Pepper, and Salt to taste
2 slices of wheat bread (diced) (or saltines to substitute)

Mix onion, meat, eggs, basil, bread, oregano, salt, pepper, and parmesan. Flatten out thinly in a rectangle on top of a piece of aluminium foil with a thin coat of olive oil. Lay the ham side by side until it covers the entire top of the loaf, then layer the broccoli on top of the ham, then layer the Mascarpone on top of the broccoli. Lift one edge of the foil and roll up tightly. Bake at 350 for 30 minutes. Melt the butter and mix with the wine. Pull the loaf out of the oven and pour the drippings in the melted butter and wine. Pour the wine sauce over the loaf and put back in the oven for an additional 15 minutes.

This one sounds good too:

3 lbs hamburger or ground chuck (or half of each)
1 stack of crackers, crushed
2 eggs
1 tsp salt
1 tsp black pepper
1 medium onion, chopped
1 tsp worcestershire sauce
2 small cans tomato sauce (one for meatloaf, and 1 for the basting sauce)
1/2 cup brown sugar

In a large bowl, mix the first 8 ingredients well (using only one can of tomato sauce). Spray two baking dishes with favorite cooking spray and create two loaves. Mix one can of tomato sauce with 1/2 cup brown sugar and heat until mixed. Spread all over the meatloaves covering well. Bake for one hour and thirty mins at 350 degrees.

Meatloaf scares me. I can't tell what it is, and my general rule is that I don't eat things I can't identify.

That's the nice thing about living three hours away, I can get that and any of her other delicious meals on a semi-regular basis.

Of course this arrangment may change some time after the first of the year.....

It's meat.*

School and hospital meatloaf does not necessarily fit into this catagory.

I wasn't even getting them on a semi-regular basis when I still lived at home.

At some point... Mom lost interest in cooking.

Thankfully my mom loves cooking (and is damn good at it). I am waiting with great anticipation for Thanksgiving, especially the pies.

I remember one time the cook at the fraternity house got lazy... (well, he was pretty much always lazy). He was supposed to make salmon patties... instead, we had salmon loaf for dinner.

That went over like a lead balloon.

On the plus side, one day when he was making meatloaf he noticed someone had made the mistake of leaving a sixer of beer in the house fridge. It found its way into dinner.

Nah. He didn't bother to process the beer beforehand. Just poured it right from the bottles into the meatloaf mix.

Double the size of your burgers and bake them with some sort of glaze or basting - viola.
