The whole scheduling tough opponents thing is very new to KU though...I remember ole Roy's non-con schedules. To be fair, KU played Central Missouri State during Roy's last year...in a regular season game. :D

But KU is supposedly the No 1 team with a lot of expectations

Mizzou is not ranked. Also Mizzou lost 4 key players from last year.

LIke I said No 1 team playing at home against a D2 school they should have won by more and played better. But they didn't.

Ok. KU is playing Vermont, an NCAA Tournament team (you know, that thing after the regular season is over), on Friday night. We'll see how they do then. Until then, i'd shut up if I were you.

You mean they should have played their starter lineup with a kill attitude in a game that didn't count instead of using an exhibition game to find out the qualities of those who were not their starters?

Why do you think that makes sense?

From the Star

In their final tune-up before Friday's opener against Vermont, the No. 1 Jayhawks turned in a far-from-elite performance in a 79-70 victory over Washburn. Bill Self's squad shot just 40.7 percent against the Division II Ichabods, who outscored KU 56-53 from the field.

“They pretty much outplayed us tonight,” KU forward Wayne Simien said.

Here's how bad it was for Kansas: Simien, a national player of the year candidate, led KU in scoring with a whopping 13 points on three-of-10 shooting. The Jayhawks made just five of their 16 shots from behind the three-point arc. And they clanked 10 free throws in the decisive second half.

Again, since you must have missed the question - do you believe that Self should have used the opportunity to play his starters more (even though all were in double digits) and trounced the Ichabods in a meaningless game instead of playing a multitude of combinations and gettting all the players in sync and still win the game?

Again, was it more important to play the starters and blow out the lower competition in a meaningless game or to play a variety of combinations of players to see what would work better in the latter season?

Why can't you answer a simple question?

No you are missing the point but to answer your question you should play a variety of combo of players. But what you are missing is the starters were outplayed. Simien the All World Player that he is even stated it. There is some cause for concern.

Okay, at least we got the first question out of the way.

So you are stating Simien (who didn't play a complete game) did not meet expectations in an exhibition game in which he was probably not fired up.

I still don't see the big deal.

Hey, I am as far from a KU fan as you can get - but I understand the difference between tuning on an exhibition and getting serious about the season when it is truly underway.

Now you are setting yourself up if KU falls in this game. I saw Rhode Island a few years ago.

The fact is that honestly Bill Self has the best team in the nation at this point. I hate admitting it, but he does. Will he have the best team next week? Who knows. But I bet he has a better chance than most because he isn't attempting to run his starting horses into the ground to win a meaningless game.

Funny coming from a guy who states his posts structure is not important. Evidently, an "A" game applies only to sports and to others rather than yourself.

Even more ironic is your statement that your structure is not important as this is only a bulletin board (BTW - I agree with you) while stating KU should be giving their 100% even though it is only an exhibition game.

I admitted I was a MU fan. I have stated that in the past.

yes MU had a close game with Brown. But the expectations are not as high this year at MU as it is with the No 1 team in all of college basketball. KU has already played 6 preseason games They have played in September in games. They should have the kinks out by now.

A athelete should always bring their A game.

Should - yes
Do they always - no

Like I stated previously, I'm not worried about what happens in an exhibition. Apparently, you're the only one who has any concern over that game and you're a rival fan. If KU starts playing like this when the games count, then I'll start to be concerned. Until then, it means absolutely nothing. There is no point of trying to find chinks in the armor right now. I know, you MU fans have to have something to help you sleep at night.

I don't know but if you go back and look the starters for the Cowboys prob won the game when they were in. Remember they also play 3rd and 4th stringers in those games. Those players are bringing their A game.

This is way too much talk about MU vs Brown and KU vs Washburn. I guess with the Chiefs sucking ass, there's nothing better to talk about than meaningless college basketball warmup games.

Gracias. I tend to forget about college basketball until football season is over, especially considering the year the athletic program at MU has had.

cool, I got another neg rep, my 5th ever...this comes from Pitt Gorilla:

which only confirms my statement that MU fans are ****ing stupid...I doubt Gorilla even read the thread...which would again confirm my statement that MU fans are ****ing stupid....etc.

Sad commentary on you.....no one speaks with less intelligence when it comes to Basketball (and politics) than you...

I actually agree with you on football, but when BB season comes around and you speak, the renters leave the attic when it comes to brains.

I think you will find that most MU fans are reasonable....and very astute when it comes to the athletic program....I don't see many here who have predicted anything for either the FB or BB program beyond having a winning season.....

I am not at all surprised at the floundering that the Tiger football team is doing...when all your Offensive plays are geared to try and bring the Heisman Trophy to a QB that still need a lot of seasoning, you are doomed to fail.

As for the Basketball team...I look for the middle of the pack. And there is a reason that the coaching staff is now filled with former head coaches of Division 1 programs.....this Athletic Department is setting itself up to hand the program over to Melvin Watkins should Snyder fail again either on or off the court....

To be honest, I don't dislike the MU fans on here. Most of them. Some of the KU "fans" are annoying. Now, I know im setting myself up for a rash of shit here, but of the KU fans on here I only know of a few that actually pay attention to the football team. That upsets me as the football team is very much so worthy of supporting and talking about. Oh well..it will come in time, probaby.

Bullshit.

KU BASKETBALL

In close win, Moody makes a difference

By JASON KING

The Kansas City Star

LAWRENCE — As if eking out a victory over Division II Washburn wasn't startling enough, consider the player who helped key Kansas' 79-70 win on Sunday. Wayne Simien? Keith Langford or Aaron Miles? Nope.

Try Christian Moody.

A walk-on, Moody scored 10 points and grabbed five rebounds in his second straight exhibition start.

He was at his best during a second half in which Washburn shaved KU's lead to four before the Jayhawks collected themselves and pulled away at the end.

“Do we win the game without Christian and (freshman) Russell Robinson playing really well in the second half?” KU coach Bill Self said. “We may have, but those two were the best performers during the second half.”

Robinson, a guard, finished with seven points and three steals.

• MINUTES: Don't read too much into the fact that guard Jeff Hawkins and small forward Alex Galindo didn't play.

“I'd love to have played everybody,” Self said. “But it's how the game played out. Nick Bahe only played 2 minutes. We were trying to win the game. That's why it occurred.”

The reserves brought their A game. So the starters don't care? Stupid if that is the case. Even Self said he couldn't play everyone because they were trying to win the game.

From the Star

Self said the Jayhawks still have plenty of tasks to tackle before Friday's opener. He was impressed that forward Moody, C.J. Giles, Darnell Jackson, Sasha Kaun and Moulaye Niang combined for 25 points and 12 rebounds. But KU has to find ways to get the ball inside to Simien, who battled double teams all evening.

“It's going to be that way every game,” Miles said. “We'll get to work and do a better job of getting him some opportunities. But a lot of that tonight was because of Washburn. They competed.”

Simien is going to be double teamed alot. They need to do a better job of getting him opportunities. So you have to admit that is some cause for concern.

All I am saying is Which most people are not getting, KU is the No 1 team and when you are outscored from the field at HOME against a D2 school You have to have a little concern no matter if it is a preseason game or not. Most of the starters played their minutes.

No it is just showing you what Self himself said. That they have alot of stuff to work on.

Hmm You don't see that.

From the KUsports.com

The Jayhawks, who were sparked by the play of Christian Moody (10 points, five boards) and Russell Robinson (seven points, four assists), open for real Friday versus Vermont.

"We've got a lot of stuff to work on," Self said.

Like how to effectively counteract teams that double-team senior Wayne Simien when he accepts passes in the post.

With Aaron Miles and Keith Langford having off nights from the outside -- the two hit two of nine threes on a night the experimental 20-foot, 9-inch arc was used instead of the 19-9 arc -- Simien was hounded, and it showed in his stats.

Simien, who hustled his way to 15 rebounds, missed seven of 10 floor shots and finished with 13 points.

"I expect it will be like that a lot," Simien said of teams doubling and tripling him. "It's part of the game. It's a matter of me making good decisions out of the double-team, finding the open man, something I didn't do tonight with five turnovers. It's a good thing we've got five more days before Vermont."

Exactly. I'd be more shocked if Self, or any other coach on any other team for that matter, said "I'm content at where we are right now". If you're not moving forward, you're falling behind.
