Took a class in HS, but am still a pretty piss poor typist. The one thing that made me a better typest was when I switched to one of the MS ergonomic keyboards. The keyboard on the new laptop is a bitch though, the K T . all have issues, I hope it gets better with time, because remembering to smack those keys harder then the others is getting to be annoying.

I can probably type about 50 or 60 wpm. I took a typing class which was immensely helpful and then took regular college classes which were even more helpful (lots of practice writing papers).

Maybe one of these days I will take a speed-reading class and then I can think back on all the time I wasted studying when I could have been done in half the time.

The best way to increase your typing speed is to find a hot co-worker to e-mail back and forth all day.

Took a class in HS, but was two-finger typist then at about 55 wpm. Now, I'm a writer/graphic artist at a newspaper and worked on computers for about 10 years -- type 91 wpm with a 97% accuracy rate.

I don't remember which games I used to play. Can't remember the BBS's either... I know one was called Passion Fruit. Hm... after typing that, I'm predicting some gay jokes.

I took a typing class in HS and topped out at 20 WPM, I was horrible. Picked up Everquest and I can always peck out at about 100 wpm, at one point I was much higher then that but I quit online gaming and have slowed down a bit. I found most people learn how to do it in a class, but never do well until they find a reason to apply it.

Never had Prodigy or AOL or anything like that.

Remember Mom bought some Internet starter kit at Best Buy or something. Came with a trial account with cerf.net. There were a certain number of free hours.. then charges by the hour or minute or something after that. I didn't really keep track of how much time I spent online... Mom wasn't real happy when she got the first bill.

Then we got an account with Tyrell.net They went bankrupt and got bought out by Sound.net 'bout the time I started working for Q-Networks. And... that takes me through HS.

Typing, which I took as a junior in high school, remains to this date the single most useful class I ever took, at any level.

I'm at about 100 wpm, which mainly goes to show I spend too much time staring at computer screens and typing.

of course, if I couldn't type 100 wpm, then I could never keep up on some of the marathon political debates that sucked me into this BB. OTOH, my average post size would probably be alot more reasonable...

Typing was a class our high school guidance guy required you to take (unless you were a TOTAL loser). I thought it was so damn stupid, because there was a advanced metals shop class I wanted to take that hour. Well, I took the class, and to this day I am so glad I did! I think I typed 30 wpm in high school, but now I type about 60 wpm, with no errors. My form is fair. See how fast you type:
http://www.learn2type.com/TypingTest

We require all job applicants to take this test before we will interview. We always advertise a 40 wpm minimum, with 10 key. You would be surprised how many people put 60 wpm on thier resume, and then show up and can't type 30.

I have a strange method where my left pinky stays on the left shift key and my right pinky hovers around the enter key - in case I need either one of those, I guess.

The pinkies don't do any of the typing work. It's really weird, but I can type pretty fast. There's a lot of stretching for some of those middle keys that would be a lot closer if I had my fingers on the "home keys."

On the plus side, if I lost both my pinkies in a tragic paper cutting accident, it wouldn't slow me down too much.
