Dang.... that sure wuz a short season!

http://www.football.com/draft/2005/05mockdraft.shtml

Round 1

1(1). San Francisco 49ers

*Matt Leinart Quarterback USC

Tim Rattey is a serviceable NFL quarterback but when you have the top pick looking for an elite quarterback is always a safe route. San Francisco could try to trade this pick but I think Leinart is the logical choice if he declares and the 49ers stay in the top spot.

2(2). Miami Dolphins

Cedric Benson Running Back Texas

One can only hope that if this is the choice for the Dolphins he works out better than the last Texas running back they had on their roster. There are conflicting reports about how open the Dolphins would be for a Ricky Williams return next season. I think the Dolphins want Williams to come back and then try to trade him in an effort to get some draft picks back. Benson is a tough inside runner who would be the best running back option for the offense if they don't trade down in an effort to acquire more draft picks.

3(3). Carolina Panthers

Antrel Rolle Cornerback Miami (Fla.)

Rolle could be the best player available in the entire draft class at any position. Chris Gamble has struggled at times but he looks like he will settle in soon enough, pairing him with Rolle would ensure the Panthers have a pair of young talented corners for years to come. Derrick Johnson would be a tempting player for John Fox in this spot.

4(4). Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Alex Barron Offensive Tackle Florida State

The starting tackles for this team are 33 and 34 years old and Kenyatta Walker remains an enigma and lacks consistency. Barron seems to be the leading tackle option for many teams so he would be a fit in Tampa. Getting another wide receiver option is a possibility and this could be the first place where we hear the name Mike Williams popping up.

5(5). Tennessee Titans

Derrick Johnson Linebacker Texas

While the need for a quality defensive tackle may be the biggest hole to fill, passing on an athletic talent like Derrick Johnson proves to be too much for the Titans. Johnson will be an immediate starter and he and Keith Bullock would be the most athletic linebacker tandem in the AFC.

6(6). Dallas Cowboys (From Buffalo)

*Rodrique Wright Defensive Tackle Texas

It has been evident watching the Cowboys that changes are needed all over the defensive side of the ball. With a pair of first round picks I think the Cowboys might look towards cornerback or wide receiver later. The other possibility here is the Cowboys take Mike Williams and get a defensive player at #10.

7(7). Washington Redskins

*Aaron Rogers Quarterback California

I probably have some readers scratching their head over this pick but please hear me out. The Redskins look like they will cut Mark Brunell and Patrick Ramsay does not seem to have the trust of the Joe Gibbs regime. Look for Ramsay to be trade bait while the Redskins keep Tim Hasslebeck around as the backup to Rogers. This is Washington so anything is possible.

8(8). Oakland Raiderz

Carnell Williams Running Back Auburn

The Raiderz seem unwilling to hand this job to Justin Fargas so getting a running back is a good option. Williams gives the Raiderz an explosive threat that can take the ball the distance with every touch.

9(9). Kansas City Chiefs

*Mike Williams Wide Receiver USC

The Chiefs ignore defense again as they corral Mike Williams for their aging wide receiver corps. Williams could be off the board with Dallas or Oakland but in this scenario with Williams on the board at #9 the Chiefs grabbed the bait.

No way in hell the Carolina Panthers draft Antrel Rolle when they have Ricky Manning Jr. and Chris Gamble as there QB, thats is something i would call a big ass mis-print.

Yeah, we really need to start drafting more Memphis players.

If we lose out on Rolle and Johnson, Mike Williams would be very badass.Yeah.... but can you imagine Al Davis leaving Mike Williams on the board to take a RB out of Auburn? MW won't be on the board when either of our teams pick. That is, unless one of us can manage to lose all of the remaining games....

I have confidence the Chiefs can pull it off.

That is, unless one of us can manage to lose all of the remaining games....KC will most likely win enough games to hurt themselfs in the draft, us on the other hand :shake: we are bad enough to lose out. I still think about the interview with Sapp when he signed was asked how many games would Oakland win, he said we won't go 4-12. He was right it looks like 3-13 :banghead:

In reality, there's no way we should get the draft pick we're going to get and NOT get a shot at Rolle, DJ, or Mike. If we didn't take either one of them, I would bve very upset. I think we'll end up getting DJ though. Carl likes Big 12 guys.

BigChiefFan
11-26-2004, 02:49 PM
I'd take Rolle or DJ in a heartbeat. As much as I can't stand for the Chiefs to lose, I think having the quality draft picks is a smarter move for our team. The Chiefs would be wise to see what we have in the young players, so we can get a jumpstart on next year's game-plan and get them some experience.

It wouldn't surprise me in the least if we took an OT with our first pick. We're already having some problems with RT, and Roaf isn't getting any younger. The Chiefs have always been more comfortable drafting offensive line. Frankly, with our draft history, it probably wouldn't be a bad decision.

DJ and Rolle, and even Mike Williams for the most part, are can't miss prospects. There's a difference between having the 6th pick and drafting a sure fire guy and having the 6th pick and reaching(Sims).

Sims wasn't a reach. He was the consensus top DT in the draft, and Minny even tried to trade ahead of the Chiefs to get him. I look for us to be drafting around 12th when it's all said and done, and that's when a couple of OT's could be looked at.

royr17

I think that if we do get the 12th pick than we need to consider taking one of the top corners in the draft cause i know Rolle will be off the board and than get a safety in the next round.

I saw one mock draft from last week when we had the 11-12th pick or so that has us taking Marlin Jackson of Michigan, who I guess is considered the next best CB in the draft after Rolle.

Your right, Sims was NOT a reach. Sims's problem is NOT a lack of talent, size or tools. Its a motivation problem. Damn you Carl/Bunting!!

No, we can all dream, but we know what will happen. We'll draft some defensive lineman no one has heard of, that impressed Gun once because he picked a guy up and threw him on the field, or went sleeveless while playing in Washington in November, or has a really big gut. Then he'll miss TC and the preseason, joining the team in early September, and not being ready to play until week 6 at which time he will line up next to the rest of our 12 DLinemen we've drafted in the last 3 or 4 years and be very average.

There, I hope I just jinxed all that.

Nah...i seriously doubt we draft another D-lineman. We drafted Siavii this year in case Sims doesnt work out. If it were me id pick the best available Linebacker, DB or WR on the board. Id bet good money it will be one of those 3 positions.

royr17

The only problem with Siavii is Sims has been in the league for what 3 years now and sims is 24, siavii is a rookie and he is 24 ..

I think Corey Webster is right up there with Marlin Jackson as the 2nd best corner in the draft. He is a great physical corner with nice size and athletisism but he is a still a little raw since he is a converted WR.

Whats sad is, Sims is going to be one of those guys who plays in the league a loong time. Hes a big wide body who can clog up the middle and teams can always use another one of those types. Hes basically another "Big Daddy" Wilkerson, another underachieving type. It doesnt look like he will ever live up to his per-draft status as a pass rushing stud though.....sigh...

I never thought of him as a top DT when we drafted him, and he's exactly what I thought he'd be; a developmental pick. But he hasn't developed into a player worth being selected 6th overall in the 1st round. Therefore, in my mind, it was a reach.

And I don't want an offensive tackle, especially in the first round. This place would implode.

Whatever. You said he was a reach, and almost every "expert" out there thought he was the #1 DT. The next two DT's were John Henderson, who was thought to have potential back problems, and Albert Haynesworth who had attitude issues. I'm the last person to be defending CP's draft history, as I believe that's the root cause of our current and future problems. But that's one pick that the "experts" agreed with.

As for taking an offensive tackle.....I'm not necessarily supporting it as our pick. I'm simply predicting what will be going through the organization's heads when the pick comes. We've failed miserably drafting DLine, WR and corner the last few years. OLine will seem the safer pick to CP.
