Footballer booked for losing finger (http://www.dehavilland.co.uk/webhost.asp?wci=default&wcp=EntertainmentStoryPage&ItemID=7257361&ServiceID=8&filterid=345221&searchid=234672)

A Swiss-Portuguese footballer was forced to have a finger amputated after he got it caught on a fence - and got booked for his trouble.

Servette midfielder Paulo Diogo got rather excited after scoring during a match in the Swiss league and jumped up on the perimeter fence to celebrate with fans.

But unbeknown to him his wedding ring had got lodged on one of the metal fixings so that when he jumped back down his finger was ripped from his hand.

The referee pulled out a yellow card and booked the player for his exuberant celebration, but Diogo had other things to worry about.

Doctors in Zurich were unable to reattach the severed finger, which was ripped off at the second joint, and advised the 29-year-old player that he needed to have the remaining stump amputated.

Worked with a guy, he was hunting, jumped down from a tree and his wedding ring got caught, he lost his finger....actually, it skinned his finger down to the bone and they were forced to amputate. Guys at worked called him the shocker!

Same think happened to Ronnie Lott, except it was two football helmets instead of a fence. I never understood Lotts' method of celebration.

On the bright side, he's not a goalie, so it's a useless appendage anyway.

How else do you expect a pro athlete to remember the difference between left and right?
