THIS WEEK IN CHIEFS HISTORY

KANSAS CITY 20, DALLAS 17

Cowboys suffer at hands of Chiefs

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- The Kansas City Chiefs are enjoying the unfamiliar role of spoiler.

Making full use of a couple of turnovers and Rich Gannon's nimble running, the Chiefs held on for a 20-17 victory over Dallas on Sunday, lifting coach Marty Schottenheimer to 11th on the career victory list and handing the Cowboys their third consecutive loss.

The Cowboys (8-6) needed to win to nail down their seventh NFC East crown in eight years. The victory by the Chiefs (6-8), who made the NFL playoffs seven of the previous eight years, was No. 143 for Schottenheimer, moving him past Marv Levy.
Dallas now is one game ahead of Arizona in the AFC East with two to play, although the Cowboys hold the tie-breaker advantage over the Cardinals.

After Pete Stoyanovich put Kansas City ahead 20-10 with a 43-yard field goal with 5:56 left, Troy Aikman drove the Cowboys 72 yards downfield in nine plays, hitting Emmitt Smith with an eight-yard touchdown pass that pulled Dallas within three points with 2:48 remaining.

The Cowboys elected to kick deep, and Bam Morris's running made sure Dallas never touched the ball again. Morris carried 27 times for 138 yards.

After the first half ended 3-3, the Chiefs, who have been shut out of the playoffs for just the second time since 1990, jumped on two Dallas turnovers for a 17-3 lead by the end of the third quarter.

BRING BACK BAM MORRIS!

Have I had that much to drink?

No Chiefs RB will ever reproduce Bam Morris' numbers against the Baltimore Ravens: 24 carries, 38 yards, 3 TD.

Yea i remember this game. It was the only time I believe that the Cowboys triumphiant trio of Aikman/Irvin/Emmit ever played at Arrowhead.

I was at this game, yet I have no recollection of it whatsoever. Of course, I think I tried to block out everything from that year after the Monday Night Meltdown.
