CHIEFS NOTES
After sitting out Thursday's practice to rest his sore ribs, quarterback Trent Green returned to practice Friday and will make his 61st consecutive start Monday night at Tennessee.
“(The ribs) felt so much better,” Green said. “Night and day, night and day. At this time last week, I was having a hard time doing day-to-day functions, let alone play football. I feel a lot better.”
Also returning to practice Friday was offensive guard Will Shields, who injured his ankle last Sunday at Oakland and sat out Thursday's practice. Shields will make his club-record 187th consecutive start Monday night. Shields' starting streak is the second longest in the NFL, behind only Green Bay quarterback Brett Favre, who has started 201 consecutive games.
ROSTER MOVES
In addition to placing running back Priest Holmes on injured reserve Thursday, the Chiefs promoted safety Scott Connot from the practice squad to the active roster. The Chiefs also signed offensive guard/center Aaron Johnson to the practice squad.
KNORR IN STORE?
The Chiefs are considering bringing in punter/kickoff specialist Micah Knorr for a workout. Knorr was released Thursday by the Broncos and replaced by former Chiefs' punter Jason Baker.
Knorr's net average of 34.2 yards per punt is 13th in the AFC — but that's still better than Chiefs' punter Steve Cheek, whose 31.1 net average ranks 16th. Knorr leads the NFL in touchbacks on kickoffs with 15.
The following players did not practice: fullback Omar Easy (knee), safety Jerome Woods (knee), safety Greg Wesley (hamstring) and offensive tackle Chris Bober (toe). Linebacker Monty Beisel, who missed the last three games because of a calf injury, practiced and will play at strong-side linebacker. However, Quinton Caver will make his fourth straight start at linebacker.
Woods, who has missed the last two games because of a bone bruise, said Friday that he's recovering more slowly than he hoped and no timetable has been established for his return. Woods was to have a second MRI exam Friday. Shaunard Harts will make his third straight start at free safety, and Willie Pile will make his third straight start at strong safety in place of Wesley.
If Easy is unable to play, rookie tight end Kris Wilson would suit up for the first time this season.
