Luckily KSU basketball has taken a page from KSU football in the scheduling department. How's the RPI?

ESU is ranked 19th in the Nation, and are 7-0. Washburn is 8-1, and ranked 9th in the Nation. Pitt State is undefeated as well, but unranked.
So I guess the Bods have the State of Kansas only loss throughout Division 1 and Division 2. Don't know about JUCO.

Listened to it right here at work last night.
I missed the last 3 minutes though. That's when all the action took place.

Right, it's early yet, but I actually think wins against patsies are no better for you with the tournament selection comittee than losses against quality opponents.
I don't know, it's anybody's guess how the conference schedule will shake out, but here's how I see it:
Okie State
KU
Texas
OU
Iowa State
Tech
Nebraska
Mizzou
K-State
Colorado
A&M
Baylor
Just like in football, the power of the Big XII is in the south. Iowa State looks like a strong team right now, maybe even better than OU.

I, and many other fans, are just stoked about our record and some semlance of hope. What really irks me is just about all of our wins have been come from behind victories. We won't come from behind like we do when we start facing good teams, so the time is NOW to start improving.
IMO here is how the Big XII pans out:
KU
OSU
Iowa State
OU
Texas
KSU
Texas Tech
Nebraska
Colorado
Mizzou
A&M
Baylor
I think the middle of the pack will be a Clusterfvck though...

KSU is 43rd in the RPI. Their strength of schedule is ranked 208, though. But hey, I'm not gonna knock on that. When you're a struggling program trying to rebuild (heh, Woolridge has been doing that for 3 or 4 years now) you need to schedule some patsies to get your confidence up.
Oh, and that game against North Dakota St. doesn't count according to the RPI. They only count Div. I games.
Here are KSU's opponents on the season and their RPI rankings.
Denver RPI 99
Washington St. RPI 166
Arkansas PB RPI 256

Thats what we are doing, climbing the trees. Gotta get the W's no matter what, and start filling up the stadium. Noone expects them to win a National Title this year, so obviously KU and KSU has different expectations. Besides, how does KU stand a chance at winning it all without Rich Scanlon at PG?

Wichita State is a better team than KSU and has a higher RPI right now - 36th I think. Also, NO way does KSU get to the tourney - UNLESS they somehow manage to win the Big 12 tourney - which ain't gonna happen. WSU on the other hand, I'm calling it right now, WILL make the dance and will win at least one game once they get there. THey are going to have a VERY GOOD year. So far, the whole MVC has had a great season - Creighton, NI, SIU and WSU all have a chance to make the tourney - which will it be???

WSU fans always say they have a better team than KSU. Too bad they can't prove that when it comes to game time. Scoreboard, biatch.
All the Shucker fans said they would make the tourney last year too...whoops, yeah, you made the NIT and lost. Good job.
Finally, I have to hear how good the MVC is every year. Whens the last time an MVC team made the Final four? Face it, the MVC is the farm conference for the Big XII. We might trade you SIU for Baylor one day, but until then you are just a bunch of scrubs.

Beating a Dick Bennett team is always a reasonably high quality win. They always outplay their talent level and play ugly but tough defense.

Actually they were a decent team during the mid and late eighties too.
Xavier McDaniel was their best player during that time period.
Mark Turgeon may have finally got them turned around.
The eighties were a fun time to be a college basketball fan in Kansas.
WSU, KSU and KU were all near the same level of competitiveness and one year they all three were in the NCAA tournament.

The Entire State of Kansas, throughout Mens Division 1 AND Division 2 Basketball is...brace yourselves..
39-1
This includes Kansas (2), Kansas State, Wichita State (received AP Top 25 votes), Washburn (7), Emporia State (13), and Pittsburgh State (23).
Womens basketball isn't doing too badly either. Washburn and Emporia State are ranked #1 and #2 in the nation, respectively. Kansas State is ranked #22.

I'd have to say K-States basketball team is having a better start than K-States football team. Besides, my expectation level for the bball team isn't a national title, a conference title, or some sort of individual honor. All I want from this team is some sort of post-season play, be it the NCAA Tourney or the NIT.

I can't believe Wichita St. recieved 3 votes. Puts them at 38th nationally. They better lock up Turgeon to a long high priced salary or else he will be gone in less than 2 years IMO.
If Turgeon leaves I would seriously like to see Steve Eck at Redland Community College come in and take his place. Eck has been gold with every program he has been involved with. His overall coaching career record is, 505-66.

Gooden, Collison, Hinrich got KU to the final four. Miles, Langford, and Simien, while good players, are not Gooden, Collison, and Hinrich.
Something else you probably don't know is that Illinois new coach changed them away from the Hi-Lo to the motion offense. Have you noticed where they are ranked?

KU wouldn't be any better than they are now with a "motion" offense.

The hi-low only works if you have at least 2 big men who can pass and score from the outside. Simien can do any of it, though he's more suited for post play. Beyond him, no one is clearly a good second choice. Moody is solid, but doesn't inspire fear from other teams. Jackson has shown flashes, but he's been inconsistent. Giles is a great athlete, and will someday be the guy primarily down low. Kaun seems like more of a project at this point.
Most teams' answer: double Simien, make KU shoot over the top, leave guys like Moody, Jackson, Kaun, Niang, et al. alone to brick shot after shot.
KU's run last year was as much a result of Giddens getting hot down the stretch, and Graves' ability to place nice lobs over the top to Simien as well as improved defense. Graves was a tremendous passer, he was just a head case in every other aspect of the game.

I liked Roy's offense. Take the ball out of the net and send it up court FAST, then look for the inbounder as a trailer for an easy lay-up. Oddly one of the knocks on Roy was always that he didn't recruit physical guys, and Self was just the opposite.

Jackson is supposed to be one of those. Just a muscle in a jersey.
It's funny, Giles gives a little push to a player in the post and gets called for the foul, and Langford gets poked in the eye during the shot on the play before and no call.
Sometimes refs key in on certain guys too much.

I was more upset that the officials treated Schensher like he was made out of glass. The blew the whistle on Giles once for coughing.
Yeah, that late tie-up was bogus, too. At least that's what it looked like on TV. Of course, they didn't show too many close up replays so it is hard to say for certain from that view. And yes, Giles was called for barely touching someone while a lot of the GT players got away with murder. At one point, DV was saying Kansas has only shot 2 FTs because they weren't attacking inside. I say BS. They were attacking as well as shooting from the outside. They just weren't getting many calls inside.

It's early, but this is a 'must' home win for Wooly.
KSU goes down 0-2, and it's likely time to toll the bell on Wooly. (IMHO)
