Can't we make some kind of team to help out our various problems. There are so many people here with such vast knowlege that would be more than happy to help out.

I am of the opinion that the BB performance is finally the way it should be, I miss the search function but having the BB working right is worth the loss. If we can get it back someday that would be icing.

But it seems to me we should be able to have both...

I wish I had a better understanding of exactly what the problem was. I just have a hard time believing that we can't fix any problem with the fincancial and knowlege resources of Planateers.

Well there is no version 4...I am not sure if there is a 3.1 or anything of that nature...

I think an update's effect would be small...but I dont know everything.

G5 Xserve or 12 would be nice...

Bob Dole doesn't know how to explain it in any more detail than, "The MySQL database is larger than 12 gigabytes." Bob Dole isn't a MySQL database expert, but common sense would lead Bob Dole to assume that searching for text strings as small as 4 characters in a 12+ gigabyte database would put a significant strain on the processor. (That assumption appears to have been validated by the performance stabilization since turning off the search function.)

Throwing money at the issue is unlikely to help in anything but the short term, as the database will continue to grow as long as old posts are not pruned from the db.

If anyone <b>is</b> a MySQL db expert and has any suggestions that might address the problem, Bob Dole is pretty certain Kyle would listen. The immediate concern was to avoid having the server grind to a screeching halt multiple times each day, and that concerns appears to have been addressed.
