Illinois was No. 1 in the Associated Press' college basketball poll Monday for a second straight week, the school's longest run ever at the top of the rankings.

The Illini (9-0) moved into the top spot for the third time in school history last week. The other two times -- 1952 and 1989 -- they were there for all of a week, although they reached the Final Four both of those years.

Can someone 'slpain to me how Iowa is ranked below both Louisville and Texas?

I coulda swore they beat both of those teams quite easily.

I think they are still feeling out Iowa, seeing what kind of team they are. IIRC they only beat Texas by 2 and Louisville by 5 or so, at a neutral site.

Not putting Iowa down or anything...

but i'm VERY interested to see the game on December 21st, Iowa vs Texas Tech!!

Not to burst your bubble, but they've played 4 teams that were in the Big Dance. Louisana Lafeyette and TCU were not in the tourney last year IIRC.

And the "last year" thing really doesnt matter now. St Josephs sucks, Nevada isn't very good, and Vermont isn't impressing anyone.

Pacific and TCU are the 2 best teams KU has played IMO.

FYI: Pacific and TCU are the only teams KU has played that have winning records.

Not that that means anything...i'm like the rest of you, salivating for that GT-KU game on New Years Day.

I thought ULL was in the tournament last year. Aw well, doesn't mean anything at this point.

Ah..I just checked. You are correct. They were a one and done. Interesting side note, it was their 2nd NCAA tournament appearance, ever.
