Understanding Football
What if you're watching football with a child and a bone crushing collision leads him to ask "Why are those men attacking each other?"
These are some tips found in Parents maganzine:
- Explain that tackling is part of the game, a way to prevent the other team from scoring.
- Point out that the players wear helmets and pads so they won't get injured.
- Note that if one player tries to hurt another, his team will be "punished" with a penalty.
- Make clear that such contact is limited to the football field. Your child needs to know it's not acceptable to hit other people, no matter what he's seen on TV.
