He's the best CB available in the FA market. we gotta get this guy. Nobody else in the FA market is as good as Smoot. I'm not for drafting a CB. Cause they take time to develop, and our time is now. Not in 2 or 3 years of having to wait for a CB to be good. If we were in a re-building stage, then I could understand as to why we should draft a CB. But, our time is now. So don't delay, sign Fred Smoot today, Carl!

I've read that Gibbs loves Smoot and has indicated retaining him is a top priority. Couple that with Snyder's penchant for being really loose with money, and the possibility they could always tag him - I don't think there is much of a chance that he ends up in KC.

Ken Lucas is my choice of CB to pursue.

I'd go with that. I remember wishing we would draft him...or Terrance Newman...or Chris McAlister... or Champ Baily...

...at least we got William Bartee.

Smoot was getting toched all night against the Eagles last sunday. Looked old for a guy who's only 25.

the problem is that we say that ever year..

dont wanna take a CB in the first because they take time to develop

we'll if we had just sucked it up and done it, we woulda had one developed and ready to go next year.

converted safety

According to Joe Seahawk, he's the best corner on the team; playing better than Trufant.

I see a lot of Seahawk games (local team) and I agree that Lucas would be a very good pick up. Seems to play man very well.

Seattle's problems aren't with their secondary. It's injuries to their front seven.

Maybe it is just me, but I always expect to see the Passes Defended numbers to be a lot higher than they are. 18 passes defended leading the NFL just seems very low for what I would expect.

I've gotten the impression that they have to get their hand on the ball, like when batting the ball away at the last second.

I think passes defended is a bit over-rated. the better a cover CB you are, the less passes are thrown your way. That's the way I look at it. :hmmm: Then again...

then is there any stat you do judge a corner by?

i mean because if we go by what you said the best cornerback would be the guy with no pass defenses and no interceptions because that means he was so good nobody passed at him.

sounds like william Bartee ... i think he has zeroes across the board :hmmm:

Maybe that explains it. I was assuming it was just an incomplete pass thrown at that DB.

But wouldn't you expect the other CB to have a ton of pases defended then?

Okay, okay. you got me. I confess what I said. William bartee has had a LOT of passes thrown his way, and hasn't defended any of them, so.......Umm....I don't know? what would be a good way to judge a good corner? watching film?

Well, yeah probably. the QB's gotta find somebody to pick on, whether it'd be a CB or LB.

I do agree, Baxter would be a very good fit for this defense, 6'2" 215 lbs., has some speed, plus he fits cause he can also play corner but the guy can tackle too ...

I think if you are looking at a full time starter at CB, one of the better ways to statistically judge the guy is compare his INT's to PD's. A high number of passes defensed with no INTs could mean the guy is getting picked on a lot but is never coming away with the ball. It probably doesn't hold water in all cases, but in general I think it is somewhat of an effective way of rating a corner.
