I Robot:

Actually much better than I was anticipating. Will Smith actually turns in a decent performance and tones down his "Big Willie" persona somewhat. The story is just so-so but the action scenes are directed with flair by Alex (The Crow,Dark City) Proyas. The special effects are well done and seamlessly interact with the live action. Recommeded

Collateral:

IN a one word, DYNAMITE! One of the years best films and expertly crafted by Michael (Last of the Mohicans, Heat) Mann. Tom Cruise and Jamie Foxx turn in some of the best performances of their careers with this tale a hit man who goes on an all-night killing spree with a cabbie to escort him around LA. Very well made and even has a great shootout scene in a nightclub that is a mini-verson of "Heat"s great shootout scene for all you fans of that classic. Highly recommended!

I agree. I-Robot was much better than I expect because of its poor reviews. Collateral was definately well done and very good.

After reading your review of the LoTR Trilogy:

They are good, extremely well made, written and acted.

You've guaranteed that Bob Dole will wait for the network broadcast of both.

I respect the LoTR trilogy more than i really enjoy the films themselves. I think at times they are a tedious bore.Admittedly, im not a LoTR "geek" Im more a sci-fi Star Wars "geek" than anything.

I, Robot was pretty good but had nothing to do with the book really. Collateral I haven't seen but few people I know liked it.

I saw Collateral in the theater - I thought the ending detracted from the overall story, but it was still pretty good. Both Cruise and Fox were excellent.

I Robot was another classic sci-fi book I never read, so I had no preconceptions going in. I thought it rocked. Will Smith cracks me up.

Collateral was good, but I was annoyed by the inefficient means in which Tom Cruise's character dispatched his targets.

I haven't seen I, Robot.

Collateral I'll have to see that one. I've got a friend that swears it's the greatest thing ever made by humans...

Well, i wouldnt go that far, but im a huge Michael Mann fan so if you like his work, you will love this. BTW, i hear he is going to make a big screen movie of his old 1980's series Miami Vice next with Colin Farrel in the Don Johnson role. That should be sweet. Miami Vice was the shiznit "back in tha day"

I also watched both of them recently and agree with you take on both of them. I wasnt expecting much with I Robot was suprised with how entertaing it was. Decent enough story some good action sequences.

I had been waiting for collateral to come out on DVD for quit a while. Michael Mann's style of movies just fits exactly with my tastes and i was expecing to really enjoy it. It was everything i expected. Great acting and the night club sceen was very badass.

I, Robot was better than my expectations too. Although I disagree with you about Will Smith. He was miscast here. The Asimov story is meant to be a much darker and a good actor with an edgier personality could have done great things with it. I still liked it enough to maybe pick up a used copy of the DVD. But I would have loved to see a more serious version.

Collateral, frankly I didn't expect to like (despite positive reviews). But I just loved it.

Collateral started out as a really smart thriller and interesting exchange between Cruise and Fox. It ended as a silly shoot 'em up.
