No, you won't catch me asking you n00bs for "tech" advice. :D

I am looking for a digital video playback device and need help. Here's the scenario:

A friend of mine is selling a product through a partnership with some retail stores in the area. Today, his display consists of either a VCR or (in some cases) a DVD player and a flat screen monitor.

The VCR's especially are failing at an alarming rate, due to dust collection/eaten tapes etc.

He's wanting a solid-state device like an MP3 player that could play a 30-second video clip over and over again. (aka: something with a much larger mean-time-to-failure). Of course, it would need compatible video outputs (composite/component) for use with the monitor.

And you can't accomplish this by running it from a computer?

It be like a screensaver...
Problem solved.
That was easy.

Um, you're kidding right?

A computer would have to be rebooted on a weekly, if not daily basis, especially if it ran windows.

Read the post again. It's an IN-STORE display, in someone else's store...

It would work but has 2 problems:

1) It's a USB-attached DVD/CD drive. It's too elaborate (aka it will fail much easier).

2) It costs $400.

Security isn't my concern, man. I was asked to see if I could find the device. :)
