Warfield pleads no contest to felony drunken driving charge

January 5, 2005

OLATHE, Kan. (AP) -- Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Eric Warfield pleaded no contest Wednesday to a felony charge of driving under the influence.

The charge was a felony because Warfield, 28, has two prior DUI convictions. A plea agreement with Johnson County prosecutors calls for him to serve 10 days in jail and 80 days of house arrest and pay a $1,500 fine.

In exchange for the no-contest plea, prosecutors dropped misdemeanor counts of driving with a suspended license and having no proof of insurance. Formal sentencing was set for March 3.

The charge stemmed from a traffic stop on Sept. 20, 2004 in the Kansas City suburb of Overland Park. Police said Warfield had a blood alcohol level of .189 percent, more than double the state's .08 percent threshold for a DUI charge.

If he doesn't, he's gonna wake up feeling like Dexter McCleon standing in the end zone.

I have a feeling he can take careof himself in jail. He's not a lineman, but he's not exactly a whimp.

Johnnie Morton probably has never had a DUI in his life.

.189?? That's nothing.

I've driven on a full box of Cocoa Puffs, a handful of bennies, a quart of coffee, half a dozen lines of blow, a fifth of JD, a 12 pack of Stella Artois, a full jug of Barbera, half a dozen shots of Tuaca, a pesky whore on my lap, and having not peed in several hours- and I still managed to get myself home without a scratch.

Lucky for Warfield it is unlikely that Joe Jurevicius will be there.

They should have moved up the plea and started his 4 game suspension a month ago. Stupid.

Yeah, but he'll be outnumbered by Charles Woodson and Marques Anderson, and they've already got contacts in jail.

Another chapter in the completely classless history if the Kansas City Chiefs. At least he wasn't stealing stereo equipment or dealing drugs to high schoolers... I don't know why they even let you guys play football anymore...

10 days for a third DUI seems pretty light to me. Does he lose his drivers license for a number of years?

A third DUI in Kansas is supposed to be a mandatory 90 days in the poky. Looks like they made up for it with 80 days house (mansion) arrest. He should also have to go to counseling and loose his license for at least a year.
