It's snowing like hell in the Chicago area - we're supposed to get between 8 to 12 inches before it's all said and done.

How much do you have?

None. But we don't get any in the valley here typically... Problem is, there's only 19-inch base on the mountain I board at. I hope this new storm dumps on the mountain up there...

The Sierra Nevada's have been getting pounded. Mammoth MTN. has a 9-11' base. Just got 10" new snow with more on the way.

We've got plenty of reporters scanning the skies tonight just in case a stray flake blows in..

Jim Foreman is the channel 5 guy, he's strapped to the mast of a sailboat at shilshole marina so he can bring us team 5 coverage of the event!

Well we got quite a few here, roughly around 3 inches, but we did get alot of heavy ice. Some areas got up to 2 inches of ice.

Out in Aurora it didn't seem like we got as much as forecasted, maybe 6-8 inches when they were calling for up to a foot. The roads were clear and the train to Chicago was on time, so I'm a happy camper.

I've seen how people on the coast drive in snow. I'd be panic stricken too.

We started off yesterday morning with rain and about 34. At noon, the temp dropped below 32, and we started getting freezing rain. At about 3:30 it started to sleet, followed by snow. Other than that, it was a pretty uneventfull day. We didn't get much accumulation, but I still friggin hate winter. :cuss: :cuss: :banghead:

Same for Naperville (not surprisingly :D ). I caught the 7:30 out of Route 59, which was about 5 minutes late. That's certainly livable. Yesterday it was about 20 minutes late.

I always love the way winter seems to surprise the folks at Metra - "Cold? Snow? Here? In January?"

I use the Route 59 station as well, and the 6:37 was right on time so I was very impressed. If you think the Metra folks are unprepared for winter, the people at the CTA downtown make them look like the most prepared people ever. I lived downtown in 98/99 and after the big snowstorm New Year's Day 1999 the entire downtown train system shut down until the afternoon because they weren't prepared for the snow although it had been forecasted for over a week.

They got 20 inches in 12 hours in Aspen the day before yesterday, but we only got a couple of inches. It's Siberian here right now, but we don't have a lot of snow.

I'm in Milwaukee and I think we're supposed to get about the same as you guys...maybe not quite as much. It certainly was nasty out there this morning on my way to work.
