View Full Version : OT: Front Doors

My wife is wanting a front door with a full decorative glass facing. I'm not completely sold on the idea. We won't be having the side lights or overhead transom so I see the need for some natural light, but the whole door?
Does anyone out there have a front door where the face is all (mostly) glass? How do you like it? What are the positives and negatives?
PS- Are they really really bad in terms of energy efficiency?

My front door is completely glass. We don't even put a curtain on it, so when someone walks up to the front door they can't help but peer in. It's completely clear glass, just like a window.
It's a really old door (100 years), so we aren't going to change it. It kind of worried me for a while that we were a little too visible and that the house was too visible when we were gone, but it doesn't seem to be a problem, and I like the light and visibility.
Your door seems to be mostly clouded glass (or whatever it's called). I wouldn't see where that would even be an issue, since no one can see through it.
In terms of energy, I'm sure the glass is worse than using all wood, but I have no idea what the actual impact is on our utility bill.

I'd personally be worried about security. Do you have an alarm?
