Jayhawks take lumps in victory
By Gary Bedore, Assistant Sports Editor

Monday, January 10, 2005

Lexington, Ky. Kansas University forward Christian Moody, whose family made the trip from Asheville, N.C., had tried two three-pointers in his career before connecting on a big one Sunday.

He missed one against Pacific this year and one against TCU. He hadn't attempted any in his previous two seasons.

"That was my first?" Moody said, grinning. "It felt good coming off my hand. It's good to know Keith (Langford) has that trust in me. Keith penetrated well and threw me the ball."

Why did he hoist a three with KU down, 33-32, six minutes into the second half?

"That's where I was on the floor," he said with a smile. "I'm happy it went in. I'm more happy we won."

Moody suffered a left-ankle sprain with 1:29 left and had to leave the game for good.

"I stepped on somebody's foot. It's just a little sprain. I'll put some ice on it," Moody said.

"Moody blew up his ankle pretty good," KU coach Bill Self said, noting Moody's status for Wednesday's game at Iowa State was in question.

Langford suffered a severe concussion when diving for the basketball with 2:45 left and KU up, 54-53.

"We don't know yet. He got hit pretty good," Self said, asked about Langford's condition. Langford was taken to the locker room after sitting on the bench a minute or two after suffering the injury.

"I don't know if it showed on TV, but we talk so much about being the first one on the floor. It's a loose ball, and we're up one, and he goes headfirst," Self said. "He's got a pretty severe concussion. We'll do tests when we get back if we need to, but I don't know what availability he'll have Wednesday."

Senior Aaron Miles said he looked into Langford's eyes after the game.

"He'll be OK," Miles said. "That play when Keith got hurt epitomizes these two great programs. Kentucky had two guys dive for the ball and Kansas two guys dive for the ball. It epitomizes these programs. Players are willing to do that."

Freshman Russell Robinson played just two minutes the second half. He didn't return after getting whacked in the head.

"He took one to the face," Miles said. "I mean, he was a little (dazed). He'll be all right."

It's believed Robinson didn't suffer a concussion.

"He got his bell rung," Self said.

Meanwhile, Wayne Simien, who said he wanted to play Wednesday at Iowa State, likely won't play, Self said.

"I don't think so," Self said. "He wants it to happen, I don't think it will."

Moody might be out, Langford might be out. And of course Simien out. For the Iowa State game.

ISU scares me. I don't know what our record in Hilton is but it isn't good.

i still think these injuries will be a positive in the long run.

as long as none of them are long term, they will increase the playing time for the young guys and make the team better come tourney time.

Bet you could fill the whole first page

Why not go over the gheyhawk slant or something if you want to post every KU article you find... I mean really?

I could start spamming Tiger threads to match...

Personally, I wouldn't mind them all on one thread, but it's not like it's a daily or even an every game thing
