Name game: Dolphins rename stadium

NFL.com wire reports

DAVIE, Fla. (Jan. 10, 2005) -- The Miami Dolphins have a new coach, and now they have a new name for their stadium -- and it has a familiar ring.

The stadium now will be known as Dolphins Stadium. Pro Player signed a 10-year deal with the Dolphins in 1996, but has since gone out of business.

Dolphins owner Wayne Huizenga also said that a new firm is being created to manage the football team and the stadium he owns, as well as to oversee a planned stadium expansion.

A new management company -- Dolphins Enterprises LLC -- is being created. A CEO for that company will be named shortly, Huizenga said.

The CEO will report directly to Huizenga, as will new head coach Nick Saban.

Instead of Oakland's "Black Hole", there'll soon be Miami's "Blowhole."

That's true. Although "Google Park" would be kinda cool.

they should have just gone back to Joe Robbie.

I, as many other South Floridians I'm sure, will still call it the stadium formerly known as Joe Robbie. No one ever called it Pro Player Park.

I heard Oakland's considering the tagline "Oakland: Where NFL players come to die." for this upcoming offseason.

Pro Player went out of business?A long time ago, too. Dunno why the tards kept calling the stadium by that name until now.

I mean, do the Astros still call their place Enron Field?

Considering how their season went, they should call it The Tank.

I bet the Marlins are going to be pissed, two recent world championships and they are supposed to play in a stadium named for the scrubs.

No name change has been announced that I'm aware of. But, that's Houston, which is a strangely earth-like piece of Hell that as grown like a cancer on the Texas coastline.

If they had named it "Hot Babes on the Sidelines Stadium" or "Playboy Arena", I bet there wouldn't have been a single male here who would have complained one bit... (Yes, including me. ;) )

Hmm.. Come to think of it, that might be a good marketing ploy for the Dolphins. Betcha they'd sell out every seat in a real big hurry.

Yea I was thinking that too. What a slap in the face.

I don't know which is worse, the Marlins having to play in "Dolphins Stadium," or the Jets having to play in "Giants Stadium." talk about feeling like second class citizens.

Maybe when you get a little bit older and wiser you will understand that it is an honor pleasure and privilege to play in the Beaver.

Ask gochiefs, he'll tell you all about it.
