I don't know if this is correct or not. I figured I would see if any of you had heard anything about this. According to what I heard on the radio just a minute ago, Rod Smith has told Mike Shanahan that if Jake Plummer is retained, he will retire.

Now, this was not some public statement that Smith supposedly made but something that he supposedly said privately to Shanahan in a team meeting that somehow made it back to Quentin Griffin's agent, who then let it slip in a conversation.

According to this... Shannon Sharpe's final decision was that the team could not ever win the Super Bowl with Plummer at the helm and that Plummer was average at best. Plummer is not a favorite of his receivers because he is not very accurate and often leads them into the teeth of a defense.

I don't know if this is true, but it was just brought up by one of the talking heads here in the ATL...

Anyone else heard about this?

Haven't heard anything about that. I wouldn't mind seeing him leave. He always seems to shred us.

I don't think this is true though.

Bob Dole is supposed to have beers with one of Rod's buddies from high school shortly. Bob Dole will see if he has any info.

2004 was his 10th season... whatever he does he's had a fine career. I still give nothing to this rumor.

Well, now it's been on two boards. That can't just be a random rumor.

I've verified with some of Taco's people. It's definitely true. Rod Smith will retire at some point in the future.

What an idiot. He must not have liked winning championships.

My sources in Vegas say something is definitely going on here. I guarantee you Smith will have to decide whether he wants to retire or to continue playing. That is all the information I have at this time.

If Rod retires their passing game will suffer. He was their only possession receiver.

Please retire, Rod!

It's true. At some point in time, we can state without hesitation that Rod Smith will retire.

He may never retire. When he loses his mobility they might just move him to center like we did EJ Holub. :p

Rod Smith to retire (from the KC Star Board) ...
I didn't know he was a member of that board. Any chance we can get him to register at Chiefsplanet?

Hell of a find indeed ... undrafted FA. I remember his first big play in 95, I believe. Denver needs a TD to beat the friggin Skins at Denver and Elway tosses a 50 yd TD strike to Rod in the endzone with 00:00 left on the clock.

Sweet indeed.

He's had an off field issue or two, but overall he's been a great player and emerged into a strong leader for that team. He also appears to be VERY frugal with his money and doesn't spend much, so he's been smart and should be set for life. Not like some guys you read about 10 years after they retire, strapped for cash.

We could use him. It would be fun seeing both Kennison and Rod Smith score on the rat.
