Missouri recruit wins national honor

Published Friday, January 14, 2005

After leading his Texas high school football team to a mythical national title this season, Missouri recruit Chase Daniel was named the EA Sports national player of the year yesterday.

Daniel, who verbally committed to Missouri in July, led Southlake Carroll to a 16-0 record and repeated as the Class 5A player of the year in Texas.

Daniel completed 275 of 426 passes for 4,263 yards and 47 touchdowns with only 14 interceptions. He also ran 228 times for 1,287 yards and 21 TDs. In all, Daniel amassed 5,550 total yards and 68 touchdowns during his senior season.

In his two years directing Carroll’s explosive spread offense, the Dragons were 47-1. For his career, Daniel totaled 10,882 total yards and 127 TDs. He rushed 499 times for 2,897 yards and 38 touchdowns. Through the air, he completed 506 of 776 passes for 7,985 yards and 89 scores.

"Chase is the best dual-threat guy I ever coached," said Carroll Coach Todd Dodge, an 18-year coaching veteran. "He’s a leader and an athlete first and a football player second. He’s very unique and not impressed with what he’s done. He’s a winner."

The national signing period for high school football players begins Feb. 2

That's some distinguished company. I'm guessing he'll redshirt next year and then be the starter the following year?

Why hasn't there been any KU trolling? :hmmm:

To be fair.. it does say the list is retroactive prior to 1994. That'd make it pretty easy to choose, I suppose..

Speaking as a Mizzou fan, we can only hope that this prodigy has K-State level academic ability, because if this kid can read a newspaper and find out how bad the 2004 Tigers and their Heisman candidate QB sucked, he might not make it to Columbia.

ROFL I didn't create the thread. And there aren't 8 of them.

PG were there any stories available about whether or not his former coach watched his last game?

Chase Daniel, Chase Patton, Chase Coffman..quite a collection of Chases you guys have. However in the scheme of things, Mizzou football is pretty irrelevant.

My niece is a senior at Carroll High in Southlake and she and my brother agree that he's something special. My brother knows football - played at Central Missouri State as a linebacker. Says the kid is a can't miss. My niece knows him pretty well and says even better, he's a quality guy when it comes to character. Says he is a natural born leader.

I'd be very surprised if he isn't the MU quarterback in 2006.

And being a Mizzou grad who generally ignores football season because it hurts too much, this is good news.
