Remember it, I still can't go out and rake my leaves without cracking up thinking about it.

Thinking of a few things my Dad did to deal with some of the hooligans we had out in our neck of the woods, I have a feeling Bwana and him would get along just fine.

I'm not too bright about that. Got pulled over in Texas in Dec for doing 15 over. For some reason the guy let me off with a warning. As soon as I got back on the highway, I was going 80.

I view tickets as a toll for driving fast, I guess. I don't really get upset when I get one. It's a fact of life when you drive fast.

It's been over 2 years since I've gotten a ticket, which is probably a record (knocking on wood as I post). I never go faster than 10 over anymore, unless I'm in faster traffic - which is basically anytime I drive on the interstates up here. That seems to be working so far.

Almost all of my tickets have come out in the middle of nowhere. If there are no other cars around, I carefully watch my speed now.

If I'm driving on a road designed for high speeds, in a car designed to travel at high speeds, and there's light to no traffic and conditions are good, and I get a ticket, I see it for what it is - getting robbed by someone who carries a gun.

I once got nailed for running a stoplight. If I hadn't run the stoplight, I would have been rear-ended by some lunatic in a Mustang who fishtailed through the intersection behind me IN FULL VIEW OF THE COP, WHO PULLED ME OVER INSTEAD.

I went to court. I explained the situation. The judge said this. "Trying to avoid an accident, eh? SEVENTY-FIVE DOLLAR FINE!" That was it.

Apparently I was supposed to let the guy hit me.

Man i had this story typed out zach, and it was going to be funny. I was going to make up a story about how i got pulled over going 15 over and i was drunk and I blew a .07 and the cop let me go on my way. My intentions were going to be for you to say "Thanks asshole, how the hell does that help me feel better" Then after i got done typing it i decided to delete it because sure as shit if i post that and somehow you feel pissed i will get lit up by the white and blacks this weekend

I think I've gotten five warnings. They are few and far between.

Once I got nailed in Franklin Park (Chicago suburb near O'Hare). I was already on supervision for a previous ticket, and a conviction for the second one would have meant both went on my record. The cop was a complete douche, too.

Anyway, I took one of the attorneys from my office to court. That day, I actually had real luck - the judge was one of my lawyer's golfing buddies. I didn't even need to approach the bench - CASE DISMISSED.

PBJ

The prick of a cop was in the courtroom and realized what happened. Oh was he was pissed! And he got even more pissed as I subtely flipped him off on the way out of the courtroom. :D

Yeah, I bought one of those Rocky Mountain Radar jammers for $500 several years ago. It worked great for a long time and then I got busted driving Bob Dole's car in Arkansas. I was doing some crazy speed over 90, but if I had been caught 3 minutes prior to that, I was over 110. Heh. I stopped using it after that and bought an Escort.

Cops have developed countermeasures for the radar detector. It started when they lowered the speed limit from 70 to 55. They really got creative as they could (and did) ticket you at 61. I even knew one of them that would back his car up into a drainage culvert along a super 2 road. He'd radar you just as you passed him and you had no way to see him or have your radar detector to go off as he had it aimed the other way.

I don't know how many people sent him cash for 2003 Christmas after his bullshit sob story about how he couldn't buy his kids gifts for Christmas. Then he tried another scam with the whole "getting fired" bit. I wish the search feature were working 'cuz I'd go find those threads right now.

Did the bitch have a criminal record. Generally, somebody that dishonest has to have some sort of record. He probably just lied about it anyway.

No. He was one of the longtime members - had known him since '97 over at the Star, too. He knew several ChiefsPlanet members on a personal level and as far as I know, he wasn't a criminal.

But, he had a special needs teenager and his "career" wasn't worth a shit, so I guess he did all this stuff out of desperation.

I didn't know about the game tapes until being PMed about 15 minutes ago. I tried to turn the search feature back on a few days ago. I think it's been disabled at the Unix level because I can't get it working within the admin console. We're gonna have to wait for Kyle.

I don't know much about his background, but I don't think he was a criminal. But, he shared an awful lot of personal information online. So, Skip goes to the social security office to apply for Social Security.

The woman behind the counter asks him for his license so she can check his age, but he realizes he left his wallet at home. So Skip says, "I'll have to get it and come back later."

The woman says, "Unbutton your shirt." So he opens his shirt revealing curly silver hair. She says, "That silver hair on your chest is proof enough for me" and she processed his Social Security application.

So Skip says to her, "I should have dropped my pants, then you could have given me disability too."

Didn't feel like I could help out but did help relay JOhn's addy to some people that wanted to help - he said he felt awkward about it and I was wanting to help however I could. With the way things are starting to look, I actualy had a hand in what appears to have been a deception. I see lots of cases and usually can tell when they are legit, I sure felt like his situation was at the time. For those that I forwarded and address to, if you feel decieved, I apologize.

John was a pretty stand up guy for a long time.
I'm sure there's a reasonable explanation for his actions especially since he cared enough to send one of you a Xmas card.

You guys sure do know when to kick someone when they're down. He came to you guys in confidence and even though you may have thrown the bank at him, your contributions should have been contributions that you shouldn't have expected back.

If he's hard on his luck what makes you guys think that he's gonna be that one in a million miracle that's gonna suddenly repay all of you?

He's probably embarrassed about it and self humilated at the same time that he even had to "beg" or accept gifts and then you guys pile on him and kick him while he's down.

If I would have gave someone money to buy their kids Christmas presents, I would not have expected nor accepted it back. But I understand he "borrowed" money from a member to make a car payment with the understanding of paying it back, then disapeared without explanition and still lurks from time to time.

Tell me about it. I had something like this happen to me once. A friend wasn't going to make their rent, so I lent them some cash to get by, and told them to get it back to me whenever they could. It was convieniently forgotten about, but not by me. It's not even so much that they ****ed me over, it's that they actually thought I was stupid enough to think I wouldn't notice that they never paid me back a sizable sum of money.

Lesson learned I guess. To this day, there are very few people that I would ever trust enough to lend money too.

John was a well liked guy. I feel strongly about a lot of you guys on this this board, even you Roger. I've "known" you all for almost a decade online. You're my friends. If somebody rips you off, I got your back. If somebody ripped JOhn off, I'd have his back. But all that bullshit about "restoring faith in humanity", "quit smoking so the kids can have christmas", "my mom's sick" - fug that shit. You should, too.

TheNextStep

I gotta agree with Iowanian. JOhn's scam didn't affect me at all... but the fact that he has the type of character that he either deliberately lied and scammed somebody who trusted him or borrowed money and failed to pay it back without any word to the person he owed shows that he's a piece of sh*t.

I remember I had a friend that came to me one day needing $400. His car broke down and he didn't have the money to get it fixed. When I gave him the money, I said, "hey, pay me back when you can" and he replied, "I get paid twice a month and you'll be getting a hundred bucks every payday." If he had come back and given me $20 a payday, I'd have been fine with it... but the man was true to his word. Every payday, I got a hundred. It meant a lot to me because that's exactly what he told me he was going to do. It spoke to his character. Years later, we're still best friends. I was best man at his wedding, he was best man at mine.

A few years after that, there was this girl that I was friends with who was going through a divorce. She came to find out that her husband had (unbeknownst to her) taken out one of those "title loans" at some unGodly rate of interest. She owed over $1600. She talked to them and they agreed to halve the amount amount if she paid by a certain date. She didn't have it, so I gave it to her. She paid me back in 3 months. I'm now married to her.

It isn't about whether or not we individually got scammed - it is what JOhn's actions say about his character. His actions, frankly, say that he's a piece of sh** and should not be welcomed by those who value character, honesty, and integrity.

I didn't know all of this stuff about JOhn until today... and now I'm pissed about it, even though I didn't lose a dime to the f***er.
