View Full Version : If you were among the last humans left after an A bomb...

If you somehow escaped the A bomb alive, how much technology could you re-produce? Let's say you had a few machinists and machines available and plenty of metal. Could you tell the rest of the people how to build an internal combustion engine? An air conditioner? A television? A telephone?

ROFL At least your getting the important stuff. I would be looking to see if any of the machinists were hot.

Just looking around me I can see there are damn few things I could recreate. A pane of glass? Nope. A mirror? Nope. I'll bet most of us would be cast back into the 1840's if this scenario happened. A gun? Nope. And probably a not very good bow and arrow. Hell, I doubt many of us could feed ourselves and survive.

Given the tools, as it appears I'd have, I could fashion knives (I've made several already) and could even build a gun - the only problem would be coming up with the gun powder. That is the part that would give me some trouble.

Given the materials and the tools, I am confident I could survive.

I don't think I would have a problem building shelter and putting food on the table. An internal combustion engine and a gun I could do. A television or telephone....I guess I would have to shoot Saul with my gun and force his physicist friend to make them for me.

Same way endelt is getting his booze. I'd loot it.
Hmmm, maybe a steam engine then, and a little book learning whould be all it takes to make some black powder.

Okay Okay, I'd just stab Saul then hold the knife to his buddy's throat.

Today in chemistry, I stacked two nails on to one nail. I tipped the flat side of nail 1 on the table. Then with the flat sides pointing up, I carefully overlapped the other two onto the tip of nail 1.

So, that should count for something.

I imagine what I couldnt figure out how to build I could make up for by going to a standing library full of books to teach me how to do it.

I doubt every library is going to be destroyed and somehow I doubt hi-tech factories with deep underground labs are destroyed so I could find a way to get the information needed to re-produce the technology I would require.

But as someone pointed out, its not hard to make a bong.

I got a feeling that if most of America dies in a nuclear exchange, even if that physicist survives the bombing, he or she wouldn't last long in the general population...

I'd also bet that if you had a surplus of medical supplies, safe food, or guns, you could trade them for damned near anything you wanted.

I'd also bet that if you had a surplus of medical supplies, safe food, or guns, you could trade them for damned near anything you wanted.trading would work in the short term, but you would need to develop many basic tools and acquire some sort of long term food source to have any chance of survival...

people without any basic survival skills (read most city people who are not veterans) probably would not do very well...

If someone could supply me with circuit boards, and their components I could re-establish communication through radio waves. Even if someone could figure out a way to blow glass and form a vacume inside of it it I could make a less efficient means of RF.
