Rolle and an OLB as well. If Hartwell or Gold are there then get them and we will be set.

If we get Trotter, signing Hartwell would be a waste.

Wow, I'm actually able to post for the first time (had trouble activating account).

Anyway...

I would love to get Trotter and Gold. I've always been impressed with both. If that did happen, I would have no problem trading a 2nd for Surtain and we would have our first round pick to get another CB or a DE. I really like Rogers at CB, that guy is a stud. If CP can get some stuff done, we are on our way to a very decent defense IMO.

Yeah, at this point, its either or. We dont run a 3-4, and trying to put one of them on the outside would be foolish.

If we get Trotter, signing Hartwell would be a waste.Use some imagination, man! After Trotter, sign Hartwell, Gold *and* Bell, then revolutionize the game by playing the first 3-5-3 defense.

I would like to sign Gold.

signing Trotter would be good for Barber, considering that they have played well together in Philly. Fujita as our other OLB would be solid.

Throw in the best defensive player on the draft board in round 1 and round 2 and we could have one heck of a defense.

Id take Trotter, Gold and Rolle. Draft CB/DE in the first two rounds. Sign Bashir. Set for season.

If its done it better be a good deal, no need to over pay him IMO, just a fair deal.

After MLB, I say focus on 1 or 2 (Dreaming) CBs

Why get two CBs? Draft CB... its deep this year and we only need a nickelback anyway after the first CB. WE also have plenty left to address, like OLB.

Let's not kid ourselves. Adding two to three quality players isn't going to magically transform KC's defense into anything more than an average defense. We're still quite a ways away from good! Just trying to bring a dose of reality...

I think it will. What made the 95 team great? 2 solid corners 1 outstanding LB and one outstanding DE.

Not to mention lack of leadership. I think a leader will make the biggest difference.

Think about it.... 2003 we had a great offense and no defense and went 13-3.... last year our bad defense got worse and we went 7-9..... all we freakin need is a average defense. If we get that then we win at least 11 games.

We better load up on defense in free agency.

If get Trotter, a CB, and an OLB, we WILL be drafting a WR in the 1st round.

As deep as this class is, we could easily get a good CB (who won't be more than a nickel regardless of where he's drafted) in the 2nd...

We found a 10-sack guy on the 2nd day of the draft last year.

Maybe but if Gun wants two CBs we'll still need one more. We could get one in the 2nd round I guess but if it were me I'd take the best D player available at CB, DE, S or OLB. After LJ two years ago I'm not sure we'll go there again.

I not so sure we didn't find one in the 4th last year. Parker looked pretty good down the stretch last year.

With Fujita and Shawn Barber back next season, I'm not sure we will sign another OLB. I think Hartwell and Trotter were both brought in to fill the huge hole at MLB. I think a guy like Key Fox will fill in for Barber until he is 100%

I have heard Barber is going to be on the PUP list to open the season, and possibly out the whole year. Can't give a link to where I heard that, but I recall hearing it somewhere.

And about five or six kicks/punts returned for touchdowns at key moments. That's a very reliable outcome. The Chiefs won several of those games in 2003 thanks to Dante, and as 2004 proved, even the greatness of Dante can be taken away in most games.

I agree that if KC has an "average" defense in 2005, the Chiefs should be fine, but I question if the two to three players we're discussing are enough to make this an average defense!?

Not really....Add Trotter as a MLB, trade for Surtain and/or pick up two free agent DBs' and the Chiefs are already upgraded.

Add the fact that Derrick Johnson COULD fall to us in the first round, and you have added an electric LB into the mix, and then if we are to be very lucky again- pick up DE Demarcus Ware who can play both DE and LB and the Chiefs have greatly improved their defense dramatically.

I haven't heard that about Barber. If so, It really would force us to sign an OLB.

As I recall, in 2003, Dante returned 4 for TD's...and that score was the deciding score in 2 games--Denver and Baltimore, but lets not forget that in both of those games the Defense had to make 1-2 stops each prior to the clock hitting 0:00

Vermeil said it on the last edition of the Monday or Tuesday night radio show on KCFX. Said that Barber would "probably" be PUP.
