HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP) -- The New York Jets didn't need long to replace their backup running back, agreeing Thursday to a contract with Derrick Blaylock hours after losing LaMont Jordan to Oakland.

Blaylock will get a five-year deal with the Jets and will serve as Curtis Martin's backup. Martin led the NFL in rushing last year at age 31; Blaylock is 25.

Blaylock leaves Kansas City for an $11 million contract. Jordan got $27.5 million for five years from the Raiders.

The Jets have lost two players in the first two days of free agency: Jordan and defensive tackle Jason Ferguson, who signed with Dallas.

Blaylock is used to being a substitute. He spent most of his four seasons with the Chiefs as Priest Holmes' backup and performed well when Holmes was hurt last season. In five starts, Blayock had 539 yards rushing and scored eight touchdowns. Four of those TDs came in one game, a 56-10 win against Atlanta.

More of an outside threat than Jordan, Blaylock also is smaller at 5-foot-9., 210 pounds.
