Ehh, I'm actually not upset about this one. He is WAY overrated as a player and wanted way too much green.

Surtain or Law (or both) would be preferred.

I vote for Law, to many holes to fill to trade the pick unless they trade down again.

Gunther and Vermeil didn't like Smoot by all accounts.

From what I have heard and believe I've seen....Smoot isn't good vs Physical WRs. There are quite a few of those on the schedule this year.

A healthy, non-blockbuster LAW is what they need.

HolmeZz

IMO he was better than Lucas, but not what I'd call a shutdown corner. I'd rather have a healthy Law or Surtain.

If Law's agent is still demanding a 15 million dollar SB then he should be dragged out into the street and shot.

I'd be opposed to that if I didn't think we would just waste the pick anyway. After seeing the Chiefs draft for the last 10-15 years, I've come to the conclusion that we have a much better chance trading the 2nd rounder for a good player than we do drafting one.

*Hmmm, now lets see, what do we have here at the bottom of the barrel. Oh, no, no can't do that coach wants to use the second for a WR, you know cause this offense is just falling apart. Well then what do we have here? A probowler I don't think so. Hey whats that yea you gotta scrape the barrel real hard OK now we are getting somewhere........I'd like to introduce the newest members of the Kansas city Chiefs at saftey Mr. Sammy Knight and at corner back Mr. Andre Dyson, ow ouch ouch I'm sorry I seemed to have hurt myself while I was patting myself on the back........

DAMN STRAIGHT! Over the past TWELVE seasons, KC has drafted a total of ONE player(s) w/ a pro bowl appearance: Tim Grunhard went once.

Surtain has THREE.

Gee, let's see, keep the pick and waste it on the next Cloud/Shehee/Freeman or trade it for a top-of-the-line true cornerback? :hmmm:

Only a moron would want the former.

Is Dyson an UFA? I thought he was a RFA?

Hell, I didn't even realize he was a possibility. I'd put him #1 on the list, followed by Law then Surtain. Dyson is a damn fine corner and Law brings experience and leadership... plus he won't cost us a draft pick.

Unfortunately it won't happen: Dyson is 5-10", 183#... Gunther only likes 6'+, 200#+ corners

Yes, it matters. UFA costs us nothing, RFA costs us a butt-load. We still need another LB, CB and DE.

So when did Gunther finally realize guys like Bartee (read: SAFETIES) don't necessarily make for the best corners?

Are you talking about 2nd round picks only because we have Woods, Tony G and Will Shields who we drafted in that time that have went to Pro Bowls.

That said, this team is way below average in the last 6 years in drafting talent. Busts, tweeners and guys we gave way more potential to than they really had.

Yep, that was in reference to our 2nd-round selections over the past 12 seasons.

It is horrid... perhaps the worst in the league?

It's not a recent phenomenon. The more I look at our draft history, the more I tend to believe that we've drafted like shit for his entire 16 year tenure. There are a few unquestionable hits, we all know who they are, but overall we've done a terrible job, especially in terms of using the draft to build a strong core of a team.

Everybody says, let's trade the 2nd rounder for Surtain, because we can't draft.

But hell. our history with FA signings, and trades ain't exactly sparkling either.

Face it, if there's a way to **** it up, Carl is gonna find it.

I'd rather sign Andre Dyson, and keep the pick.
That gives us 2 chances to get at least one thing right.

I know, I know, Surtain is a "proven" commodity.

But so is Dyson, and both have been the #2 corners for their respective teams.
We'd be asking either of them to come in and be the #1 guy here.

No way, Surtain is the definition of a #1 corner. Ask any Dolphin fan and they will tell you that Surtain is the #1 and Madison, although good, is the #2. Surtain is a 3 time Pro Bowler, how many times has Dyson gone?

Law is a champion, Surtain is not.
Before he got hurt a lot of people on this board, at espn, at least one guy at about every newspaper in the country called law the "best", or "most complete", or "smartest" cornerback in the game. I don't think he is only about getting paid, he earns his money. He brings fire to the table, and a sense of somene who is able to do his job well. We just don't have anybody like that on this defense.
You can't put a price on it.

I know one thing: When I come back, it's going to be with even more intensity than you have ever seen from me before, believe me," Law said. "Being [sidelined] like this, it's no fun, and you find out how much you miss the game and what a significant part of your life it becomes. If this [injury] taught me anything, it's that I'll never take anything for granted again." -ty law on coming back from his injury. Per espn.com

I would be all for Law coming to KC, I just don't think King Carl will make it happen. He is all about ego and he doesn't want to look like he listened to Whitlock. If we get either Surtain or Law, I will be ecstatic. But if we end up with Dyson I will be extremely pissed.
