Coaching: Gunther Cunningham grip on his team continues to erode and a sixth-straight loss could cause this team to implode. With two home games and a trip to Atlanta remaining, the goal is to finish 8-8, and Cunningham's ability to motivate this team will be on display.

GOAL-LINE STAND

Cunningham is failing as a game-day coach. He made a colossal mistake by not going for two when trailing San Diego 14-12 in a game the Chiefs lost 17-16. He challenged an unchallengeable referee's down-by-contact call at Oakland but didn't challenge a Raider touchdown that would have been reversed. And his team, after wasting its last timeout before the 2-minute warning, used a two tight end formation instead of three wide outs for the final, ill-fated throw to Tony Gonzalez short of the goal line on the last play of the game at New England. Those are coach-killing decisions. <P>

I just wonder why they think a sixth straight loss would cause the team to implode. I mean, did the 5 straight losses not do the trick?
