I like to clean the ol liver out every so often so I quit for awhile and take Milk Thisle with Dandelion root. It takes at least 30 days to do it right and this Saturday will be 2 weeks. I also want to do a full colon cleansing with this special kit Dr. Shultze makes, it's supposed to be the best. Problem is I can't get the supplies for at least a week and it takes a month to complete the program. During this time you can eat nothing but fruits and vegies. During this time I will supplement with 100% predigested whey protein so I don't shrink up. Problem is if I do this it will put me close to 2 months without a drink, pretty tuff stuff. A beer sure is sounding good about now. :p

What's the longest you have went voluntarily without drinking? I am not talking about you quitters either.

I went 2 1/2 weeks two summers ago.

I was thinking I may be interested in this cleansing too. What kind of milk thistle with dandelion mixture do I need?

I am giving myself a couple more weeks and then I am going to start looking for some treats for when I come off.

One month. While enrolled in the alcohol classes that were part of my punishment for my DUI back in 2001. Just wanted to see if I was able to. Spent the first Friday night of that month attending AA meetings (I was required to go to three, so I got 'em all out of the way in one night) paaaarty!

When I was unemployed last year I quit drinking and smoking purely as a cost saving measure. But, I didn't stay sober the entire time I was out of work. As it turns out, I have friends who feared the world might end if I hung out all night without a beer in my hand and insisted on buying me booze. Since I was not drinking just to save money, and not to meet some personal goal, I eventually quit turning down their offers.

So you have been sober now for how long?

Hydrae
03-10-2005, 01:42 PM
Not much of a drinker. Have not had a beer since the season ended and probably only had 1 or two the entire season.

Now as to taking a toke, I have gone 6 months or more. Usually an every day thing just like the "norm" with drinking.

I should re-word some of that. Those two paragraphs were two seperate stories... seperated by a few years. It's just coincidence that I was unemployed for roughly a month.

The answer to the question is one month. The first story.

Ha! I think I misread this the first time I replied.

As of this moment, I've been sober for about 10 hours or so. Or, at least it was about 10 hours ago I had my last beer. I didn't magically sober up the instant the bottle was empty.

I almost had a drink there, but I was so damn tired it probably would have put me to sleep. I think I have 15 Mt Dews that day and wasn't in the slightest bit jittery.

As for dealing with drunk people, I'm used to it. First job was at a bowling alley, and in HS I was always the driver.

My brother's 21st birthday was the day of that fateful victory over the donkeys. Having technically turned 21 at midnight, he had already consumed plenty of congratulatory shots before our pre-game nap. Once inside arrowhead, more was consumed, and by the time of the runback, he decided he was allowed to sit down. Not so. After being chided and abused by his brother, he stood up about twenty seconds before Dante caught the ball.Who knows what could have happened if he'd remained seated? Moral? Drink what you want, but if you sit down on the Chiefs, watch your ass. If we lose, it is your fault.

Big Daddy: Why the concern about cleaning out your liver? The only people I know of that worry about that on an oddly consistent basis are the guys at the gym that are pumping so much crap into thier veins that they HAVE to worry about thier liver. I drink over a gallon of water per day and although its mainly the KIDNEYS that get the "cleaning" (piss 3 times per hour sometimes) I know it does the rest of the body good too.

I guess I should answer the question instead of just asking a question: I am an occasional drinker. Sometimes I will go a couple of weeks without drinking then other times I will polish off a 30 pack like I was about to die of dehydration. To be honest it usually depends on WHO Im hanging around with on the weekends.

Heh... I meant "f*ck staying out of trouble" not "f*ck your stomach problems"

I wouldn't drink like I do if it caused me to spit up blood and shit either. I was foolin' around with a gal for awhile... first time she spent the night with me, next day she was really sick. At one point she explains, "This happens every time I drink. I throw up every half hour." Uh, I believe I'd quit f*cking drinking. Sheezus, I like getting f*cked up as much as the next guy (okay, a little more than the next guy maybe), but at what cost? Partying a few hours for a day full of vomiting? No f-in thanks. Of course, she was 20 at the time and had no problems with drinking in bars.

I drink too much man, WAY too much sometimes. This is just a way of cleansing it better. The liver has an amazing ability to regenerate and the supps just help out. MT & DL come in the same capsule and are not very expensive either. If I knew I would be off so long I probably wouldn't have ordered it.

I had diverticulitous a week ago and so I know I should clean the colon out, I never have before. You get in your 40s you just have to start doing the annual. All this combined with a recent shoulder injury has me down to 219 pounds these days. I am looking forward to summer and getting through this so I can bulk up a bit. Hell my waistline is almost 32" now. I haven't been there since I was 18.

While back I went to the bar on a Friday night and decided to just drink vodka tonics all night. (Skyy, IIRC, as Skyy & tonics were $3 a pop at that particular bar). Don't agree to that if the next time you hang out with him is going to be the next 37 Forever Banquet. I have a venue in mind

Y'know, I got this far and figured you were worried about the manner of behavior I'd be displaying at a nice establishment if I were going drink for drink w/ BD.

If BD plans to come to the 37 Forever weekend, we can pick a night other than the banquet night for him to try to kill me.

Amen :)

We have a drink on new years eve...sometimes.

About 20+ years ago we had my brother and wife over for new years eve and bought a bottle of Rum to make some sort of blender - sugar drink. At the end of the night we hadn't even gotten below the neck of the bottle.

The next summer I found the bottle in the cabinet abover the fridge about half empty. That's when we still had kids at home. I told them they should have filled it with water to cover their tracks.

Hopefully they have learned the tricks by now.

And yeah, I'm not a drinker. Just tea, grape juice and water. Don't even drink pop. I'm the life of the party - wooohooo....

My dad moved out when I was 11 and he had a massive liquor cabinet. By the time he checked it a couple years later half of it was gone and the other half was deluted like a MO. I started drinking at 11 and never looked back. Some might say I have a problem. ROFL

Yeah really! I stopped at the supermarket for some things for the wife and ended up buying a 12 pack of Sierra Nevada and a Fosters oilcan for the ride. Bastards! :)

High end vodka, blacked out the night before and ready to rock the next morning. I do have a special place for a lot of different liquors though. The only thing I hate is gin.

I used to drink a ton of vodka when I was in the Navy, and was working 12/12's. I never drank it straight but a little vodka and 7up while on duty, so it wouldn't be detectable on my breath.

I drink too much man, WAY too much sometimes. This is just a way of cleansing it better. The liver has an amazing ability to regenerate and the supps just help out. MT & DL come in the same capsule and are not very expensive either. If I knew I would be off so long I probably wouldn't have ordered it.

Who needs all the medical gimics? 30 pills a day for 2 months just to cleanse your colon? Just go to a Boy Scout all you can eat pancake breakfast. There is no chit strong enough to withstand the colon cleansing power of 6 stacks of pancakes, with extra syrup. ;)
