The National Football League officially announced the Chiefs 2005 preseason opponents on Wednesday, as well as preseason opponents for all 32 teams in the NFL. The complete 2005 NFL preseason and regular schedule including dates and times will be determined at a later date. All of Kansas Cityís 2005 preseason contests will be broadcast locally by KCTV-5.

Kansas City will face a trio of 2004 NFC playoff teams during the 2005 preseason, including a date at Arrowhead with the Seattle Seahawks in the third week of preseason competition. A familiar opponent at Arrowhead, Seattle last visited Kansas City during the 2001 regular season when the Chiefs posted a 19-7 victory (11/25/01). The Seahawks are the defending champions of the NFC West after posting a 9-7 record in 2004. This yearís contest will mark Seattleís first-ever preseason visit to Arrowhead, where Kansas City is 19-5 all-time against the Seahawks in regular season play.

The Chiefs will open the home portion of their 2005 preseason slate with a contest vs. Arizona in the second week of preseason play. The Cardinals most recently visited Kansas City for a regular season contest in 2002. The Chiefs and Cardinals havenít tangled in the preseason since Ď95 and havenít met at Arrowhead in the preseason since Ď88. The two clubs battled in an annual Governorís Cup preseason series from Ď68-87 when the Cardinals franchise was stationed in St. Louis.

Kansas City will enjoy a pair of short road trips during the 2005 preseason, visiting a pair of 2004 NFC playoff clubs. The Chiefs open this yearís preseason schedule at Minnesota, approximately a 45-minute bus ride from the clubís training camp locale in River Falls, WI. The Chiefs will round out their preseason slate with their annual Governorís Cup bout with St. Louis. This yearís Chiefs-Rams contest will take place at the Edward Jones Dome in the seasonís final week of preseason play. Kansas City won last yearís Governorís Cup contest by a 24-7 margin at Arrowhead (8/23).
