View Full Version : From Randy Covitz - Goodbye Kimble and Bennett

Say good-bye to Kimble Anders and Donnell Bennett.

Both veteran running backs have sizable roster bonuses due in the offseason, and based on their production, use and age, it's unlikely either will be retained for 2001.

Bennett, 28, began the season as the starting fullback, but he suffered a sprained foot that kept him out for seven weeks and in a limited role for the next five weeks. Bennett returned for the game against Carolina Sunday but suffered a knee injury and will likely be out for the remainder of the season.

Bennett, who has carried 27 times for 24 yards in mostly goal-line and short-yardage situations, is due a $2 million bonus on Feb. 16, and the best he could hope for is a renegotiated deal.

Anders, 34, made a courageous comeback from a torn Achilles tendon he suffered in the second game of the 1999 season. He worked his way into the starting lineup in October, but lost the starting halfback job to Tony Richardson last week. <P>

Too bad for Kimble, he was royally screwed over.

Bennett was once a decent role player. But he seems to have regressed. Hopefully he'll latch on with another team, but it's doubtful.

that is the sad part...I don't see any team going after these guys in a big way...no doubt someone will give them a shot at a second string job, but at league minimum...from the top to the bottom in one year...cruel game....

They are both great blocking fullbacks. I can see some team picking them up as backup fullbacks and special teams.

Lets see how good Denvers line really is give-em Bennett.

Anders will end up in Oakland and will score 5 TD's against us next year. They'll use him like Richey and he'll catch about 250 balls in the next 3 years. Just our luck.

Denver would turn Bennett into a left tackle.

I doubt Bennett could learn to cut block very well, though.

I won't miss Bennett, but Kimble has always been one of my favorite Chiefs. He was the unfortunate receipent of this years royal screwing by Chiefs management. Hopefully next years canidate will be a position other than RB. Nobody is going to want to sign with us if this keeps up.
