Whats funny is that is the exact same thing you can say about the Dems when they were running things... Why dont you just bitch at government as a whole... You look like a little whiney bitch when you generalize stupid statements on our government as a whole and then soley blame republicans...

Except in this case, they really do have a point. (besides that, its supposed to be a joke, lighten up a little) Aside from that, Democrats have never pretended to be for states rights anyway, they are just pointing out hypocracy.

The whole "hey, they are f**ed up, that means we can be f***ed up too!" arguement doesnt wash with me. I'm a Republican, and I am absolutely disgusted with how my party has conducted themselves in this case. It looks to me like a blatant attempt to gain votes, only it backfired since new polls show that the people strongly disagree with keeping Terri alive.

As much as this pains me...being an intellectual straight shooter I call :BS: Medical Marijuana? Right to Die? all states issues that the Dems fight tooth and nail for the Feds to stay out of....Both parties have their tards...it just seems that the Republicans have really out done themselves on this one :shake:

"My party is demonstrating that they are for states' rights unless they don't like what states are doing," said Representative Christopher Shays of Connecticut, one of five House Republicans who voted against the bill. "This couldn't be a more classic case of a state responsibility."

"This Republican Party of Lincoln has become a party of theocracy," Mr. Shays said. "There are going to be repercussions from this vote. There are a number of people who feel that the government is getting involved in their personal lives in a way that scares them."

Opposing state's rights has started to become a trend for conservatives when they don't like what states are doing. They have opposed states when those states have wanted to implement their own enviromental standards and when those states have wanted to arrange for their residents to puchase cheaper pharmaceuticals. Those are two of the more recent and more prominent examples, IMO.

The only thing about our government thats scares me is, I have to pay into a useless retirement fund that I'll never see a dime of...

"It's all about political advantage" = "I cannot refute the merits of their position or the passion they exhibit, so I'll resort to questioning their sincerity."

I’d think that if a poll were taken with the question slightly different, as in “Do you think the political leaders who are trying to kill Schiavo are more concerned about her and the principles involved, or more concerned about using her case for political advantage?” that the results would be very similar.

Its more like "This position is so utterly rediculous, that there just has to be some other reason for it."

You know, there's standing on your conviction, and there's simply being an arrogant ass. Your complete inability to see any merit in views opposed to yours is a pretty telling assessment of your inability to reason.

Something the liberals don't do by sucking the vast majority of tax dollars to DC and then dolling it back out to states that do what they want, right? See:

Speed limits
Seatbelt laws
No Child Left Behind

You say that as if I just blew in here without discussing or debating the case with several people. I already have exhaustively laid out my position (which is pretty consistent with the vast majority) and tried to understand/convince the other side untill everyone became blue in the face.

Basically all that can be said on this board has been said, but our politicians should be better informed about the issue. I assume their stand is based on complete ignorance, or a cynical political calculation.

Hmmm.

I'm not sure what any of that has to do with the hypocricy of conservative's betraying one of their mightiest self-proclaimed virtues.

Congress has the Constitutional right to do what they did. Therefore, no breach of states' rights has taken place.

If it was not a Constitutional right, than I'd agree with this sentiment. But that is not the case.
