Don't know if this has already been posted or not... but it's great to see what the rest of us have known for quite some time.

BRONCOS LINING UP THE TURDS You'd think that the Denver Broncos might have developed a little of that caveat emptor thing after getting burned by high-profile free agents like Daryl Gardener and Dale Carter.

Instead, the Broncos are doing some more carpe diem when it comes to defensive players with a checkered track record.

With former Browns defensive tackle Gerard Warren already in the fold, the Broncos will now sign former Browns defensive end Courtney Brown. Both Warren and Brown were take high in the first round -- and both have been colossal busts in the NFL.

But in Denver, they'll line up side-by-side again, where they'll get a second chance that we're not so sure either of them deserves.

Brown, per the Denver Post, has agreed to a one-year deal with options that could transform it into a five-year package, including incentives based on playing time and performance.

As one league personnel exec told us, "Brown will never been more than an adequate player in the NFL."

But at least the Broncos are being careful not to give the keys to the vault to Brown, like they did with Gardener two years ago, who ended up in Denver despite widespread reports that he was a bad influence in the locker room, and fears that he'd revert to turdishness once he gets paid.

Brown, the first pick in the 2000 draft, hasn't been able to stay healthy in his five NFL seasons. Even now, he's not expected to be at full strength until May. The Broncos apparently are banking on the fact that the string of injuries were an aberration, and not a sign that Brown's big frame simply can't withstand the day-to-day physical demands of life in the NFL.

And even though the Broncos might have protected themselves financially on this one, coach Mike Shanahan hardly can afford another free agent blunder. Though Shanny has been a master of plucking diamonds from the sewage treatment plant on day two of the draft, the team has been horrific in free agency on Shanahan's watch.

Then again, Shanahan could sign O.J. Simpson in free agency and still get a glowing review from owner Pat Bowlen, who apparently is deeply hypnotized by those two Super Bowl trophies that Shanny won at a time when the team was blatantly cheating on the salary cap.

The new coach, who has 5 SB rings, is cleaning house. Denver is taking all his trash. Why are doing this?

Somewhere in Texas, right about now, Priest Holmes is laughing his ass off.
