Just wondering what the consensus was on the WR position. How do you feel about Kennison and Morton as the starting tandem?

Yeah, the position becomes a little less important when you have an all-world TE, RB & FB. Not to mention the POTENTIAL of Kris Wilson as the latest addition to the passing game. The backup receivers aren't bad either. But still, I'd like to see someone challenge EK & JM for a starting position. Any predictions on what the WR corp will look like on opening day?

Morton is supposed to be cut.

I like Eddie Kennison. (Blunt objects may start flying my way anytime) and I would like to see JM get one more chance. (Blunt objects will be connecting anytime) If Johnnie can come anywhere close to the production he had in Detroit, he could be a force. I'm not ready to write this guy off as another Derrick Alexander. If the cap hit is going to be too big, then it's time to cut our losses. If not however, I say give the guy one more chance. Anyone know his cap hit this year?

Johnnie Morton wishes he was Derrick Alexander.

I like Mark Clayton alot, he is the next Marvin Harrison, would be great in the red & gold. Especially if Johnson or Rogers isn't available at 15.

Take it for what it is worth Athan says that Kevin Johnson is coming in for his visit next week. If that is true I think the Chiefs will sign him given their past interest in him.

My Prediction

1) Johnson-Goods hands, should be good in our system.
2) Kennison-Has done nothing to warrant demotion. Good season outside of few brain farts.
3) Parker- Showed me alot in a little time last year. Might replace Kennison next year.
4) Boerighter-Before last season started he was starter. He has the talent. If fully recovered he could pass Parker.
5) Hall-Not much of a receiver but does well in spots. He gives the defense something else to think about.
6) Horn-Only if they carry 6

I would love to have Clayton and if the Chiefs top choices at CB and DE are gone they should take him instead of reaching for someone else.

That's pretty high for Clayton. Hell, he might be there when we pick in the 2nd...

We wont have a 2nd because we will eventually trade it to Miami...

I personally would not mind a good WR to be drafter IF we sign Surtain... I would like to see the Chiefs trade completely out of the 1st round in all honesty. I hate 1st round picks because they demand money... but without proving anything...

I would like to see the Chiefs trade our 1st to for an early 2nd and some other 2nd day picks. Then, Clayton could still be a Chief, but at a better price as well as another pick.

I wouldn't mind giving up a second, but I don't know about trading first away. It may not be guaranteed, but I would rather be given the odds in my favor.

Always true... I just am not a fan of many of the Chiefs 1st round picks... Rather not have them muck things up and drop big money doing it *COUGH* Ryan Sims *COUGH*

Although you'd never know it by watching the KC brass operate, WR is actually one of the easier positions to fill with decent talent. Clayton is a good, productive receiver, but I wouldn't call him the next Marvin Harrison from what I've seen.

I think KC should address it later in the draft, or see who gets cut loose by other teams who are deep at this position. Jimmy Smith was a guy who Dallas gave up on too early...there are plenty of examples like that.

We lose Morton, and fall back on the hands of, let's see here... Tony G, Eddie Kennison, Kris Wilson, Tony Richardson, Dante Hall, Marc Boerigter, Samie Parker, Larry Johnson, Richard Smith, and whoever the else shows up.

Morton is supposed to be cut.
According to who? Chiefsplanet and Warpaint Illustrated?

I'm not saying it won't happen, but I've seen nothing beyond specualtion from BBs to suggest it's a sure thing.

Personally, I don't care if we retain Morton. I do think he's overpaid, but I also think that he'll be better than any other WR that would replace him (barring a few FA candidates, and thats still a maybe). He knows the system and it's been said countless times that our system is complicated and relies heavily on timing, not to mention our QB being able to trust that the WR will be where he's supposed to be.

A rookie likely won't make an immediate impact. Rookies rarely do, the few exceptions being extremely talented players, or rookies on teams extremely devoid of WR talent (ie. the Cardinals with Boldin).

A new FA will have to learn the system and gain Green's trust to be in the right place at the right time. Trust was one of the big reasons Vermeil gave for our young WRs not getting many opportunities last year.

The only reason I'll stomp my feet about Morton not being cut is if his contract actually keeps us from getting someone.

You must be a big Tony G and Larry Johnson fan, because none of the others have done squat in over a decade.

Ryan Sims? John Tait? Sylvester Morris? Dale Carter? Lake Dawson? Harvey Williams? Ethan Horton? Brian Jozwiak? Help me out here... there must be another first round success story before I get to D.T., Neill Smith Bill Maas & Jon Alt.

ummm you metioned half of them..tait, carter, wasnt nobody's fault what happend to morris. Perc snow, jerome woods..and let me remind all of that they were all in the late of the round execpt Dt, Neil smith, percy snow

dale carter-mutliple prowbows
percy snow-multiple prowbowls
neil smith-" "
John tait-" "
jerome woods- probowl
tg mutliple probowls

you can count will shields if you want, he was our first pick but not till the third round ;)
so since 1888 we've had 14 1rounders if u wanna count shields 8 of them we to the pro blow...some of them went many times. One we had no control over an injury and the other may well be on his way...find atleast 16 teams that can beat that

Dale Carter? He was great when he wasn't hurt, suspended or under indictment. Percy Snow NEVER made a probowl, and neither did Tait.

Nice take, but I would like to see us trade down if Clayton is our target. Especially if we give up the 2nd rounder.
