That hurts our leverage with Surtain; that we're willing to give up a 5th for a backup DE, but are only offering a 4th for Pro Bowl corner.

Where did you come up with the 5th round pick info? It ain't in the linked article.

Restricted free-agent defensive end Carlos Hall was acquired from the Tennessee Titans for a fifth-round pick in the 2005 draft, ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports

I think he will be good here.. but Carl giving up a 5th for him seems kinda high.. but we have a lot of picks and it was probably a good value...

but now I really dont' understand why he won't give up a 2nd for surtain

I'm starting to believe we actually have plans with that 2nd rounder; maybe to trade up for DJ.

...because Surtain does not want to be in Miami, and he will be an unhappy camper if they don't move him...when push comes to shove, it'll be a 4 with a conditional in 06.

A 5th rounder is too high for him, that was a dumb move.

Actually, on the contrary, we would've drafted a backup player with the 5th round pick anyway, so oh well...

If we did, its ok, we only have 3 5th round picks, and i am for sure that Hall will be more than just a back up in our rotation....

there is a huge difference between our 4th round pick (15) and our 5th (26) (the same difference between our 2nd and 4th)

Kansas City Chiefs - 2005 NFL DraftTracker
RD PK(OVR)
1 15(15)
2 14(46)
3 35(99)
4 15(116)
5 11(147)
5 14(150)
5 26(162)
6 13(187)
6 25(199)
7 15(229)
7 24(238)

Im pretty sure we are ok, how many 5th rounders do we need, we will proabably package other picks to trade up or to get Surtain.... In other News:

Miami might trade No. 2 pick
April 5
Miami Herald (registration required): "The Dolphins are willing to trade the second overall pick in the coming NFL draft, a fact two league sources say is getting around because Miami personnel people are saying as much in conversations with peers from other teams... Edwards' addition might be another sign the Dolphins expect to trade cornerback Patrick Surtain, likely to Kansas City."

Sarcasm (I believe) duly noted, but actually, the 5th round has been pretty good for Carl...

Dante Hall, Blaylock, Fujita, Jordan Black, Joe Horn...that's the notables...

Good thing we've got 2 more...

We got 2 5th rounders from Green Bay for R-Kal Truluck, Hall is better than Truluck.

i hope it was our lowest 5th rounder

seems a touch high to me ... although not "Welbourn high"

btw - hall was a restricted free agent, so it might not of even been a trade.

we made an offer, the titans didn't match and we owed them the 5th rounder based on their original Restricted Free Agency offer.

the matching price is not where the player was drafted ... it's based on the contract offer the original team makes when making them a restricted free agent.

If we offered Hall a contract, and Tennessee didn't match, then we would have owed Tennessee a 7th rounder. That has already been discussed on ESPN about a month ago.

We had a ton of 5th round picks. Getting a guy that has a knack for getting to the QB for a 5th rounder is a steal IMHO.

Thats what I thought too about the 7th rounder, we didnt let the Titans have their 7 day period to match, we straight up traded him for a 5th. I think this was a very good deal, I think Carl should only have 7 draft picks, package some to get other players...

Surtain (will be one this year, conditional next)
The guy from NO (will be one this year)
Hall (5th Round)
2nd rounder (trade up) - get DJ.

That means we only have 2 picks in the top 100 (top 10, #99) but with the additions of these players our D would have significantly improved for many seasons to come on D.

If the O can hold up for 2 more seasons I think we have a good chance this year, a great chance next...

No...We didn't. We are lucky if our 1st rounders pan out, let alone our 5th rounders. And we still have 2 or 3 more picks in the 5th round.

Have you ever watched Hall play?
