SO I get home and my internet is working like crap (pages half loading/timing out)...at first I thought it was my airport since the cat had knocked it off my desk but after a few reboots of my cable modem and the airport plus a call to comcast (expereinceing high call volume) I determined it was the cable company....BUT Chiefsplanet is the only webpage I can surf to righ tnow without the page timing out....why would that be?

Run a ping test to http://www.comcast.net

Or better yet, do a traceroute to the comcast.net site and see if you time out anywhere

There's alot of wierd shit going on today.

- I host a webpage thru fatcow, their down
- I can't get onto my email provider (not comcast) and had trouble logging onto yahoo
- another site I frequent is un-reachable two minutes before I read this thread

Me thinks the internet may be experiencing and attack or wide-scale troubles of some kind.

You're imagining this, DenverChief. It's just wishful thinking on your part, combined with powerful hallucinogens.

You didn't hear? Phobia took over the CP, nothing will ever slow it down again. EVAR!

At the risk of sounding like a complete internet moron (which I am)...

The reason you can get to CP may have something to do with temp internet files or cookies. I believe they "save" web pages that you visit, so any sight that you visit frequently will load faster than a random site. This may explain the access to the Planet, but not other sites.

I'll now wait for someone much smarter to tell me how wrong I got it.

Can anyone not using Comcast open either of these sites?

www.fatcow.com

www.joblo.com

Thier both clean sites.

As far as I could tell their DNS was hosed, I couldn't get any name resolution at all. I'm glad it wasn't just me fighting with the comcast issues.

Yeah, that's a pretty easy server to have a backup for though. Oh well, looks like it's either the planet, TV or a book.

Sombody set up a webcam and get drunk on whiskey and dance around and fall for our amusment.

Well, there has been a DNS exploit virus type of thing being used on Windows DNS servers, so if any of these companies are using that, it could be that. Its a pretty easy fix though, or so I thought.
