Well its been a strange week. Monday the counter my original offer asking for full price. I write back hell no and walk away. Realtor keeps calling me, I tell he its worthless, I'm not wasting my time. Walk in her office today with another low offer, flop it down on the desk, give them tell noon tomorrow. The counter back big time this time, I make one last counter because I find it fun and I'm a tight ass, and the took it!

Hoover is a first time home owner... Well, I will be in about an month.

Thanks for all who helped with this.

My first new car, the planet helped.

my first Home, the planet helped.

Man what can I get help with next????

No shit. Get a "good" inspector, and he'll have no problem finding a few grand worth of work that "must" be done (or knocked off final costs) before you could ever hope to close on the house.

Yeah, but I love the woodwork - I think that would be one the coolest aspects of buying an older house. My place is new and drywall central.

Good luck with the closing. Do you have an attorney?

I can't buy a 500 square foot studio in the worst neighborhood on the peninsula for that. Looks great though Hoover. Here in agood area that probably would run 1-2 million if not more.

Not quite as bad here, but I understand. I paid more than that for a 2 bedroom townhouse with a single car garage.

In about a year or so we will get to "enjoy" the same experience for the first time. We will be retiring (back Stateside) and needing a place to hang our hats!!! So, I've read your (and that guy who is trying to Huckleberry you) threads with great interest. Thanks for sharing, man! I need all the education I can get on this matter. See, the Planet is good for something!!! :-)

Probably go up if history is any indication. You can buy a country for the same price as an outhouse out here. Pure insanity.

When I bought my wife her engagement ring, I made sure she would never want an "upgrade". I thought I should follow the same rule with a house. While its not perfect, there isn't anything that we need to change.

Congrats Hoover! That's a beautiful house. I'm sure you will love it. Way to stick to your guns and get it for true market value. Realtors always try to stick you for what it's "worth," but it's only worth what some one will pay.

There's a house in Bolivar that has been on sale for over 3 years. They started it at over $1 Million. Even after a 50% reduction in price, it's probably still a little over-priced for this market.

Yes, I'm putting slot machines in the basement next to my new pool table. I'm going to claim that their spirit still lives on. :D

So Iowanian, I was wanting to see if you wanted to come up and do some yard work, so you will know how to do it at your new house, free of charge! Really!

The roof is sweet, and original to the house. We have 2 churches in town with Tile roofs, and the house was built the same year as one of them. It really sets the place off. It looks really cool then there is a dusting of snow on it.

There is noting like it (Style, size, materials) like it in the area. Grinnell has some wonderful ould homes but there is not a Mission style 2 story brick with a tile roof.

Dude....that's awesome!

Geez, you and some of the others helped me out big time on my "first-time home buying thread" and I can't tell you how much I appreciated it.

Now, I might have to have you fly in and negotiate a price when it comes time for me to get my first home. :D

Congrats- that's a sweet looking place to call home.
