now i'm thinking that my original list was real 70's-leaning.
The 80's had more than their fair share of crap too... like:

Chris DeBurgh - The Lady in Red (shudder)
and
Haircut 100 - Love Plus One

The three most annoying songs are:

Micky by Toni Basil

YMCA by The Village People

I Ran by A Flock of Seagulls

The three worst songs are:

We Built This City by Jefferson Starship or Airplane or Blimp or whatever they are...

Lick it Up by Kiss

Sunglasses At Night by Corey Heart (I believe it is). Quite honestly, just about any of those one hit wonders from the 80's would fit in the top three of the worst songs ever.

That's called a gimmick. A calling card. Something to set them apart from every other faceless band of the time. It only made them the biggest band of the decade in the 70's and helped them continue selling millions of albums and merchandise 2 1/2 decades later. Not to mention how it helped change the "face" of rock music forever.

But you're right....every band should look like Bread. Who would ever want anything different.

I've said my peace now...

ROFL

The fact is, bands with actual talent don't need gimmicks—they let their music be their calling card.

And saying that they changed the face of music forever really doesn't hlep your argument -- Kiss is responsible for the pathetic hair bands of the '80s.

Also, the fact they sold millions of albums means nothing to me. So did Milli Vanilli and a host of other shitty bands. Some of the best bands ever never sold tons of albums ... just ask the Ramones.

True.

And saying that they changed the face of music forever really doesn't hlep your argument -- Kiss is responsible for the pathetic hair bands of the '80s.

Another true statement.

Also, the fact they sold millions of albums means nothing to me. So did Milli Vanilli and a host of other shitty bands. Some of the best bands ever never sold tons of albums ... just ask the Ramones.

Yet, another true statement.

Beer me- I don't denounce the fact you are a Kiss fan and I think it's great that you feel such a strong connection with them- just as long as it's a healthy connection. That's the important thing- that it be a healthy connection. I used to be one myself when I was a pre-teen growing up in KC.

As a matter of fact, I was a rabid fan- collecting nearly everything Kiss and compiled quite the photographic shrine then. One day, when my family was moving and having a moving sale, I was out in the garage looking through this Kiss book I put together when some guy came up and offered me $400.00 for it. Of course I gave it to him. $400.00 back then to a kid was like being handed a grand. But, I was a kid, and I was fascinated by them- they were colorful and electric and different from any of the other bands. But, then so is the Grateful Dead. Nothing much has changed for me, just the style of music- and the Grateful Dead is the style of music I choose to embrace. It does something for me that Kiss could never do- it made me a part of the musical experience.

Kiss is a talentless band. Check out their music and try to name more than three chords they've ever used. And then pick up a Led Zeppelin album and listen to the music. And then go pick up a Miles Davis album and listen to the music. And then go pick up a host of other albums and listen- really listen to the music there- and then honestly tell me Kiss can do that. I don't think so. But, Kiss is a historic band- they just won't be remembered for the quality of their music, just the entertaining performances.

That song that goes, "You're as cold as ICE, you're willing to sac-ri-FICE our love. You don't take ad-VICE, you're ..." bothers me. Is love so cruel that it leaves its victim mumbling rhymes so weak-assed that they even the casts of The New Zoo Review and Barney the Purple F'in Dinosaur would be ashamed to mutter them? I don't know who sings that song, but I suppose they are wearing leotards while doing it.

Now it can bother you who can't get it out of your heads. ;)

Now it can bother you who can't get it out of your heads. ;)

Foreigner - Cold As Ice

Hit song back then, and I agree- terrible song

True.

Another true statement.

Yet, another true statement.

I couldn't care less who you and Mark like and who you don't.... but to say all of the things you two say is a matter of opinion...which is very different from actual truth. Everyone is welcomed to their opinion, that doesn't make their opinion true.

To say Kiss is a talentless band is evidence that you've never actually listened to much of their music. I'm not talking about the "hits." I'm talking about the whole body of work. Calling them talentless may be your opinion....but it's certainly not true.

Kiss was hardly "to blame" for the hair band craze. That's just a retarded stereotypical comment from someone who admits to not liking that type of music and I'm sure therefor based that comment on nothing more than linking one to another because it was convenient.

The hair band thing actually started on the Sunset Strip where the "new breed" of rock bands were popping up. Bon Jovi's "Slippery When Wet" album and specifically the song "You Give Love A Bad Name," along with Quiet Riot's "Cum On Feel The Noise" were the first songs to cross over from the clubs to the video shows and pop charts. This was all born out of the irreverent and decadent attitude coming out of LA and the Sunset Strip area specifically. KISS was doing a very different brand of music from these bands and doing it in New York. So to call KISS the cause of the hair band craze is just ignorant.

That's the dumbest thing about these musical arguements...opinion is way more important than actually knowing anything.

Dude ... are you the son of Gene Simmons or something?

My god ... get a freaking grip.

For the record, I have listend to their music ... a lot of it. Had Violator, Hotter than Hell and Dressed to Kill on vinyl, and drove to school for two years with a guy who played nothing but Kiss, so I heard it every day for at least an hour for two years.

Ask anyone who's played music about Kiss' chord structure and diversity of sound, and they'll actually agree with both me and Cosmic -- there just isn't a lot there.

And to say that Kiss had nothing to do with the hair band phase is being disingenuous.

Don't get me wrong -- I don't think you're an idiot for listening to them or anything, and I've met plenty of people who think they're the shit.

I'm just not one of them.

You're right.... I should never be allowed to express my opinion or refute anyone else's stance on something. That's only for other people to do. I'm just suppossed to take it all with a grain of salt and let it go no matter what.... otherwise I'm the asshole.

You're the one that admitted to trying to get to me....then when I dare say my 2 cents worth, I need to get a grip. I even went out of my way to be "politically correct' in my language in many spots so as not to come off too harsh. I don't know why I bothered. As usual it's the "call someone out with a comment against something you know they like, then attack them for being defensive about it."

It's the oldest and lamest game on the planet.

Like I said, I honestly couldn't care less who you like musically. It doesn't change my life. Just thought I'd try to point out a couple of things that were glaringly wrong with your comments... aside from opinion.

Beer Me- I not once in this post verbally attacked you- I only gave you my opinion of the band and the music. You are not alone in defending your favorite band, nor am I alone in stating Kiss is over-rated. I was only stating what I believe is to be true to me.

You have to understand, as a fan of the Grateful Dead- we get a lot of sh*t too. But, I deal with it. Admitting the fact that I'm a Deadhead gives a lot of ignorant peeps the impression I'm some tofu, grass drinking, pot-smoking hippie with dreadlocks and a girlfriend named after one of the distant planets in the solar system. I deal with it because I hold a special affinity with the music for it is spiritual to me- not you, or a lot of the other guys here on the planet, but for me. The Dead might speak for something else for Mark and a number of the other Dead fans here, but we get just as much sh*t about our band as you do yours....

It's all good...and trust me dude- I knew everything there was about Kiss when I was a kid. I also had all of their albums, and actually still have Destroyer for it brings back fond memories of my childhood for me.

Most mainstream music is horrible but the alternative rock bands coming out the last couple of years really piss me off. A lot of these bands would get lauged off stage if they tried to make it in the early nineties.

1.) Stained (It's been awhile) or (I'm on the outside) practically the same generic angst rock songs.

2.) Nickleback (Someday) Because every rocker has a soft side! Another contrived clear channel angst rock band. I was so suprised when someone posted on here professing their love for Nickleback because to me they are the type of band that clear channel tries to shove down everyones throat.

3.) Any Emo bands song. I'm sick of these pussy bands leaching on to the national punk scene like a parasite to a host. The lyrics to these crappy bands like My Chemical Romance read like amateur high school poetry.

I guess maybe the problem might be that you are labeling both those bands as alternitive, I don't think Stained or Nickelback are anything but rock.

As far as Nickelback, yes I like them, I would like them without clear channel. I think they are a decent rock group without many songs that I think are crap.

But then again, I wouldn't give up listening to a band that I like just because they became popular either and I hardly listen to the radio.

Saftey Dance is one of my all time favs. It's actually THE song responsible for my switch from country to pop/rock as a kid..... and it's "leave your FRIENDS behind..."

Would ya please reply with a printing of all the lyrics to this song and provide a complete description and explanation of the song's Renfest video? Who was the moron who wrote/sung this piece of crap and did ya ever wonder why he was just a one-hit wonder who should've never even had the credit of having one hit?

It's just that the local clearchannel owned alternative station for awhile was playing Nickleback constantly. That song from the spiderman soundtrack is also pretty horrible.

Honey - Bobby Goldsboro. So sicky sweet it gags you.
Joy to the World - the song that made me quit listening to 3 Dog Night. Jeremiah was a bullfrog? What the hell is that?
And I'll add a vote for Sylvia's Mother.

Doesn't get any worse than those three - unless you really listen to the Beatles' Revolution No. 9. But then no sane person would do that.

Listening to the radio can frustrate the hell out of anyone, especially when a band gets popular. I could really see how having to listen to rock bands on an alternitive station over and over would piss you off.

Personally I'm just celebrating the fact that over the last few years there has been a lot more rock and hard rock being played on the air. I just couldn't stand more then just a couple of the alternitive bands.

I'm amazed that I haven't seen this thread on here. The 3 WORST songs of all time:

Terry Jacks - Seasons In The Sun
Morris Albert - Feelings

and a special spot in the bottom pit of hell for

Bobby Goldsboro - Watching Scotty Grow.

Discuss.

Nothing wrong with that generation..........

WORST SONGS ? Any rap song you can think of........

For that matter.........ALL RAP SONGS !
