...to become the 1st TE in NFL history to chalk up 100 receptions in a season. Do you think it will happen? I doubt it, unless they gameplan specificall to do that.

Anywho, sounds like KC needs another WR to step up and take some of the heat off your boy b/f he gets overworked.

I think they're using him about right.

You've gotta remember that he started the season out slow. If he had been on at the beginning of the year, and Grbac had played the San Diego game, Gonzo would already have over 100 catches.

Mile High--
Would you stop with all of the intelligent and classy posts? You're going to give Bronco fans a good name! :D

IMO, He will come just short of 100 unless they game plan for that specific purpose. With Raye, I wouldn't hold my breath for any kind of game plan. What I wonder is whether or not Elvis will go out of his way and force a few to TG. I wouldn't doubt it. If he's just a few catches short, I would like to see them go out of their way to get the guy the record. What else do they have to play for?

As far as TG being overworked . . . I never considered that. The only player he can be compared to is Kellen Winslow. How long did KW play for San Diego? With all of the abuse taken in the passing game, longevity is definitely an issue. I think we are all so stoked on the guy no one has considered that option.

Anyone else have any ideas?

~~Will enjoy it while it lasts.

I have a feeling that they'll come out running the ball next week, especially if the Chiefs are truly thinking about using T Rich as an every down back next year.

It looks I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue!

Alexander has more catches & is well over 1000 yards. In addition, we will have a seasoned SlyMo next year ;)

Add a RB, and we'll have a top-5 O! http://www.chiefsplanet.com/ubb/eek.gif

Gonzo is a stud. I wouldn't worry to much about overworking him. He is still young and in good shape. I think the enemy just wants us to stop using him so much. :)

Gonzo is great but I am starting to get a little worried about SlyMo.

For supposedly having great hands he dropped quite a few balls yesterday.

Maybe next year DA or TonyG can bump pRison outa the top 5. I don't like seein' that puke's name on ANY Chiefs records!

Yeah, what's the deal w/SlyMO? Maybe he's readin' his press clippings?

I think raiderhader hit the nail on the head w/ TonyG!

rh
to think I actually defended that jerk pRison...grrrr*!

Even if Gonzo doesn't get to 100 receptions I'd like to see him get 9 catches next week so he can at least break the NFL TE season reception record. (Currently Ben Coates with 96)

Atlanta gives up about 20 catches a game, on average, so there is a chance for him to get the 9, but 12 is really pushing it.

If Terrel Owens can get 20 in a game...TG can get 13....it should be easy....just 13 little dump passes..even if they go for negative yards...screw the victory, go for the NFL records...only half kidding...

I bet they do try to get him the ball more though....

I agree Joe,

Seeing Tony G get the record means WAY more to me than the 8th win of the season against the hapless Falcons. Hopefully they can find a way to do both. I was a little disappointed he didn't pick up a few more in the Denver game, making his job this weekend a little easier.

Gunther was asked about it, and as usual, the answer is not clear. (Big shock there...)

Q: Gonzalez can set the all-time receiving record for tight ends this week. If he's close would you try and get the ball to him ?

CUNNINGHAM: "You'd probably have to do something like that. He's certainly earned his way. For me those things just sort of happen. Whether he does it this year or next year or the year after, he will do it. He works so hard. It'll happen."

So will you do it, or hope it just sort of happens?

Oh, oh, oh, it's magic, you know....

While we're trying to get records, we might as well try some crazy stuff. We could field punts at the 1 and try to go for 99 yard pass plays. Then we can send Peterson out there to try some 65 yard field goals.

It looks I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue!

12-21-2000, 01:29 PM
Or maybe we could get real crazy and actually return a punt or kickoff for a touchdown...

12-21-2000, 01:32 PM
Looking at records:
Easy: DA needs 4 receiving yards for a Chiefs record.
Tough: Gonzales needs 9 receptions to break NFL record.
Almost undoable: Grbac needs 5 TD passes to break Dawson's record.
Will gladly take a loss in Atlanta for the first two. Anyone have any stats on Falcons pass defense?<BR>

Grbac can break the club record of 30 TD's w/4 this weekend and the yds passing record with 410 yards.

The Falcons have given up an average of 235.7 yds per game passing(24th in the league). The also give up 129 yds rushing per game(27th in the league).

I expect to see a healthy dose of TRich this week...afterall, his is our featured back of the future...(pray, pray hard)

But if we attempt 30 passes and Grbac completes only 15 of them, then why not get DA and Gonzo their records...

On the other hand, maybe we'll come out and pass every play...

Bob Dole read a comment (Dr. Z maybe) that Atlanta's OLB was tackling like crap this season. If Tait and the guys do the job they did last week against the Donkeys, TRich ought to have another good day.

Bob Dole is afraid we're going to focus so much on the run that none of the passing records will fall. (Just a feeling...)

12-21-2000, 02:06 PM
TRich only needs 333 yards to reach 1,000. Hopefully next year we'll be saying that he's just a few yards short of 1,500.
