CHIEFS AGREE TO ONE-YEAR TENDER WITH RFA S SHAUNARD HARTS
Apr 18, 2005, 6:03:33 AM

Chiefs President Carl Peterson announced on Monday that the club has agreed to terms of a one-year tender with restricted free agent S Shaunard Harts. Per Chiefs policy, no further terms of the agreement were made available.

Harts (6-0, 210) entered the NFL as a seventh-round selection of the Chiefs in the 2001 NFL Draft. In 51 career games (17 starts) with Kansas City, he owns 163 tackles (104 solo), 2.0 sacks, two interceptions with one TD, two fumble recoveries, five forced fumbles, eight passes defense and 33 special teams tackles.

The fourth-year pro saw duty in all 16 games (six starts) in 2004, making 58 tackles (34 solo) to go along with a forced fumble, three passes defensed and nine special teams tackles. Harts saw his most extensive duty with Kansas City in 2002, playing in all 16 games with 11 starts due to injuries to starting safeties Jerome Woods and Greg Wesley. That season he established career highs with 86 tackles (60 solo) and four forced fumbles. In 2003, Harts played in all 16 games, registering a pair of interceptions, including one which he returned for a 39-yard TD at Houston (9/21). He also racked up a career-best 16 special teams tackles in 2003.

Harts appeared in 43 games (22 starts) at Boise State, where he earned first-team All-Big West accolades as a senior. He recorded 145 tackles (85 solo), 12.0 sacks (-70.0 yards), seven passes defensed and four forced fumbles during his collegiate tenure after a standout prep career at Pittsburg High School in Pittsburg, California.

Wow. And the trend continues at One Arrowhead Drive to re-sign all the players who have been part of the worst _efense in the NFL over the past 3 years... :shake:

He's got to be a bit bummed. There's no way he'll see the field now that he's competing with Knight, Wesley, and Woods.

That's just dumb.

You have to get depth from somewhere. You can't just go out and sign 25 new defensive players...

Biesel.

Only becaus he signed with the Patriots. But, to his credit, Beisel was the "best of the scrubs."

Yep, Harts is a solid back-up. Its the signing of our crappy players to be starters that is of concern.

Dumb? Depth? What the heck is Woods/Westley/Battle? :hmmm: We have too much "depth" or guys that can't play.

You're right, and I know it was a good "depth" signing. I'm still pissed about signing all our "depth - quality" players to be starters. :shake:

Good thing...
We're running sort of short on safeties on the squad.

I think Harts is one who's actually worth a $3it though. I'm glad we got him back...

Woods is a starter. Wesley is a starter. Batlle is a CORNERBACK.

What "depth" guys have we signed to be starters? Or are you still pissing and moaning about LAST offseason?

Well, with signings coming at this rate, we'll have as many safeties by training camp as we have whiny bitches on Chiefsplanet...

Exactly. He was ultra-green when he forced to start a few years ago but he's matured into a good insurance policy. And it is just a RFA deal.

ROFL Battle is a CB, please. The Chiefs front office should get over themselves and move both Battle and Bartee back to safety where they have always belonged and let them compete. If they are not good enough then cut them loose.

Please.

I know it's hard, but try not to act like an idiot.

Whether or not he belongs there is immaterial. Battle is NOT A SAFETY and does not occupy a roster spot there.

Signing Harts is a prudent move.

Well he sure as hell is not a CB, no matter what the idiots at 1 Arrowhead drive may say. Never was, just another egomaniacal move by Carl that failed.

I was for resigning all of last years guys as DEPTH, not as starters.

I'm glad we have Harts back as depth. We can finally say goodbye to fill-ins like Finley, West, and Connot.

You guys didn't hear? They resigned Harts to move him over to corner to start opposite of Warfield this year. ;)
