Dyson on Jets' radar

BY KEN BERGER STAFF WRITER

April 18, 2005

With cornerback Donnie Abraham contemplating retirement, the Jets apparently are poised to replace him with free agent Andre Dyson.

A team official could not confirm reports over the weekend that Dyson, a productive if not elite cornerback, would visit the Jets' Hofstra facility today. Though Dyson lacks the size and strength to be a classic shutdown cornerback, he would be an upgrade over Abraham and would give the Jets flexibility in the draft.

Dyson had 16 interceptions in four seasons for the Tennessee Titans, including six last season and 10 in the past two years. The salary cap-strapped Titans have expressed no interest in re-signing the 5-10, 183-pound Dyson, who has attracted little interest in free agency.

I think Dyson would make a good sign for the Chiefs if they can't get Surtain or they dont' believe law will be ready. Right now, it make sense for the Chiefs to lay off Dyson, but if the Surtain deal falls through, I think we're all going to look back and wish we'd considered him...

Good.

They can sign Dyson and that's one less team competing for Surtain.
